Hi all, your friendly neighbourhood Ruadhan here
You might remember me from my previous crazy conversion shenanigans, such as the mono-wheel Dreadnought (Uni-Nought), the Dastardly daemon engines and the much improved Myrmidon Destructors with Graviton Imploders.
I have had another idea. And rather than present it as a fait-accompli as is so normal for me (these things usually happen so fast I don't have time to document them)
I figured I'd present the idea, take pictures at every step and show you guys what I'm doing.
So, without further ado.
The Mechanicum Command Platform.
My mechanicum Arch-Magos is a lazy lady, she doesn't like to run around, she would far rather ride in style.
I've toyed with a lot of possibilities, ranging from riding side-saddle on a spider-walker all the way out to building a small mechanicum starship (think a few times larger than a thunderhawk gunship) with a bridge deck for her to sit in.
The one I keep coming back to is a command platform.
The 30k mechanicum have access to something called an Abeyant. generally it takes the form of either a hovering platform or an assemblage with a magos in there somewhere.
Generally that's good enough, my Magos rides the official Abeyant model as used by the standard Magos Prime / Archmagos Drayakovic kit.
Nifty, but that's more of a steed to ride into battle.
And she's still standing up.
Some time back, I made a version of Herself in a seated pose, built around the Mortarch kit's Neferata.
Trouble is, she doesn't sit comfortably on anything. I wanted to put her on the abeyant but she wouldn't fit.

I'd been playing with the idea of making a hovership, something in the vein of a Dark Eldar raider, but mechanicum styled. a War Barque.
But the intricacies of that idea leave me feeling that's not right.
It's too fast, it'd blow her hood back.
Then the Tau got their Tidewall kits.
I am so sold on this.
A floating disk platform with a command throne at the back, turret mountings at the front and a central computer-array in the middle.
Room for Herself and a couple lesser magi to command the entire battle in style.
So, here's a diagram of what I'm thinking. Excuse the crudeness of my MSPaint :

I've got a friend to trade the parts with, should have that on thursday, then I can start construction!
For the curious, I've also written a tentative ruleset for it.
Mechanicum Command Platform
BS 4 AV[11, 11, 11] HP 4 - 100 pts
Vehicle (Open Topped, Heavy, Skimmer, Transport)
Transport Capacity: 3
Special Rules
4++ Invulnerable Save
4x Volkite Sentinels (independently targeting turret mounted Volkite Chargers)
Move Through Cover
Command Platform
May only be taken as a dedicated transport option for an Archmagos Prime or an Archmagos Dominus (or indeed anyone else with Archmagos in the title)
The other two transport slots may be filled by further Magos Primes, Magos Dominus or Techpriest Auxilia
Command Relay
Any embarked characters with the Djinn Skein, Augury Scanner or Cortex Controller special rules or wargear treat the area of effect of those special rules as being extended by 6". eg: Augury Scanners deny infiltration within 18", now extended to 24". Cortex Controller can now control robots up to 18" away.
Additionally, while the platform is occupied, all friendly Mechanicum units within 12" ignore 1 point of enemy cover saves, this is cumulative with any bonuses they may already have from Djinn Sight or Enhanced Targeting Arrays.
May be upgraded with:
Replace the four volkite chargers with
* two turret mounted Volkite Culverins - 25 pts
* two turret mounted Graviton Cannons - 35 pts
Upgrade with:
* Flare Shield - 20 pts
* Blessed Autosimulacra (It Will Not Die(6+) ) - 15 pts
The broad strokes is that it's a fairly mild unit on its own, but combine with the right set of Magos Primes and archmagos and you'll have a massive force-multiplier, especially for any nearby units.
The balancing factor is that it's not cheap to upgrade this thing (you'll pretty much always want the two upgrades and probably a weapon upgrade) so an additional 160+ points on top of two or three Magos models and you're looking at a LOT of expensive eggs in one basket, but thankfully with the upgrades you should find your magii are pretty hard to hurt.
Even if enemy attacks hit the crew, they mostly have 2+ or 3+ armor saves anyway and all of them bring invulnerable saves of their own.
Wrapped in a moderately tough vehicular shell with an invulnerable save of its own and even a flare shield and it should be a tough nut to crack without a lot of firepower.
Bring it in 3k+ games I think. too expensive for lesser battles.
C&C is welcome.
