Just a random thread really, but here goes.

This week. This week is likely to be long remembered in the gaming world.

Not only did we get our mitts on a long rumoured, never-really-expected plastic Heresy set, but we were first rumoured and then confirmed that Specialist Games are making a comeback, and Betrayal at Calth is but the first product from the new wing of GW.

And I don't mind saying, I'm very much enthused.

As a result, I'm sure I've done more hobby these past seven days than I have in the last couple of months. I've built a Stormsurge and a Coldstar. I've been prepping my Knight Atrapos (and from test fitting the bits I've cleaned up, I'm far more confident about building it than I was), and of course I've had a good old delve into my Betrayal at Calth.

I've even started to catch up on my book purchases - I'm normally one to get every codex, campaign set and battle tome, but fell a bit behind last year. To this end I picked up Kauyon, Khorne Daemonkin and Seraphon.

I'm so on a roll, I'm even look at the unthinkable and actually painting my models.

In short, I've found this week to be a very good week to be a nerd!

Anyone else?

Yup.

Two 'Calth' boxes and by Throne the new sprues are just something else. The only slight miss is the Contemptor's legs, but that's a quibble, no more.

The Mk IV Tactical sprues are UNBELIVEABLE. Like, I literally still can't quite believe:

a.) They're real.
b.) I own them.
c.) The absurd number of options they come with.
d.) The relatively low price point. It's like, three regular 40K tactical squads and a Terminator box are more expensive, aren't HH, and don't come with as many options. That's unprecedented.

yeah two calth boxes for me. so far just built a dread and working on a praetor. not touched the rest beyond having a good look. I built a tau commander first to get that out of the way, reasonably happy with the results. this week coming will be tactical marines and support squads. I need to catch up on some books too, grey knight and necron books, possibly kauyon not sure. then horus heresy book five too.

this week has me hopeful that gw can keep trucking and maintain itself a little better, Ill enjoy a world with more players and more deeply interested veterans all playing more often with cooler and cooler models, which hopefully they learn to paint well or can now easily get painted by someone in the know with the time ( who may simply enjoy this aspect of it )
more frequent, more immerisve games would be a great outcome of this change in direction

Lucky you. I had been subsisting on their not-starter-sets, Stormclaw provided the impetus for me to drop a metric ton of cash on ebay gathering together old ork metal and plastic, Deathstorm made me revisit my Bangles and Niddlers. If the Tau had been handled in a similar fashion I would have probably stumped up another 75 quid and been reasonable content, but with he Infiltration Cadre at 65 sheets and Shadow Farce Bolaq at 85, they have conveniently doubled the price of the concept.

I'm a collect the set kinda guy, but The New Tau Codex remains unbought, the first 40k codex I haven't bought since ever. There's just no point.

Calth is mildly tempting, the box could almost be considered good value, as long as other GW products are your comparator, but I don't need another blah marines of any era.

The guys and I played our first game of Dungeon Saga at the weekend. Zero preparation beyond unwrapping some card terrain and cards and punching out a few counters. No miniatures to de-sprue or build, the colour coded plastics come pre-glued to their charming grey stone floor bases. We had a blast.

Calth is great value on any comparison

I'd agree with that.

Even at 40k prices, it's a stonking deal. Compare it to the Forgeworld price bracket, and it's a phenomenal deal.

As for Dungeon Saga? Quite possibly game snobbery - but it ain't Warhammer Quest, and if it ain't Warhammer Quest, I don't give a Snotling's Bum! :p

Still very hopeful the SDS (sounds ominous when you do that) will be doing Warhammer Quest before long. I craves it I does! CRAVES IT

Nah, not feelin' it.

It is :-)

- but it ain't Warhammer Quest

True. But on the upside, it ain't Warhammer Quest.

, and if it ain't Warhammer Quest, I don't give a Snotling's Bum! :p

Well you wouldn't would you? Why would you give away a perfectly good snotling's bum? Especially for a young man in your position, I mean they're just so versatile.

What are the chances they'll just reprint it rather than 'improve' it with proprietary dice and the like?

They might even set it during the Age of S*i*mar, what a joy sponge that would be.

Actually, I'd say AoS is ideal for Warhammer Quest type stuff.

Age of Myth - lots of building.

Age of Chaos - lots of destruction, many things lost to knowledge.

Age of Sigmar - oh hey, I found this dungeon thing. Let's go loot it to help rebuild our stuffs.

I'd be interesting to see how they would approach it, I admit.

But mostly in the way car crashes on youtube are 'interesting'.

So why even discuss it?

So why even discuss it?

Gives my something to do once an hour between punishing clients.

And lets face it, if we don't all have something better to do than hanging out on BoLS, we'd be a pretty sad lot.

Yet here we are.
