Huh, I guess Fire Warrior squads are now 5-10? I always liked how the older rules/fluff paid respect to the idea that a four-fingered, two-handed species would use base 8 counting (although I suppose Battlesuit numbering abandoned that a bit ago. And yes, I'm not satisfied with "Translation issues" as an excuse :P).

Still, I recall a thread complaining that having a box of ten models serve a 6-12 unit represented GW trying to gouge customers, so I guess there's no pleasing everyone.

Seeing that the dual box only has 10 men, I doubt they're still up to 12 strong.

By buying two boxes to make 12, which means you'll need to buy another box to add 2 models to the second box, another to add 4 models to the third box and another add infinity to get squads of 12.

Six boxes gets you five squads.

Math is hard.

If you're not prepared to drop 300 bucks on 5 squads, you're probably not the kind of customer GW wants...

12 and 10 have 60 as their lowest common denominator mate. If they'd moved it down to 10 maximum, existing Tau players would be complaining instead. Can't please everyone!

Reliable rumour mongers have confirmed they remain 12 strong.

they are still available in twelve man squads. this is not a rumour, it is on the instruction sheet for building fire warriors. strike teams in 12, and breachers in 10

Ok, I'll bite, why do you doubt it? The case for 12 man teams of fire warriors is,

1. It doesn't alienate the Tau players who have bought, based and converted 12 man squads over the last decade plus, and
2. It means newbs will be tempted to buy more boxes, heaven forefend GW might consider this 'A Good Thing'

What's the case against 12 man teams?

I have 4 teams from the good old days, so I'm not exactly in the market, but ta.

It's too long ago to remember the particulars, but I do recall having enough spare bitz from my original Tau enthusiasm to covert an embedded journalist with fuzzy ball mic, a cameraman and a bodyguard standing drinking a beer.

I guess these days I'd use them as objective makers.

well I bought three boxes of the new fire warriors, and if I went online and bought ten more fire warrior or pathfinder torsos, I would have enough bits left over from the three boxes to make another squad of ten. if you bought one new box you could add a nice sprinkling of bits to old fire warriors too.

Pathfinder kit looks to be fully compatible - so if you want 10 Breachers and 10 Firewarriors, no need to shell out £60.

Have bought, can confirm it's 12 for Strikes, 10 for Breachers. You still only get enough for ten full models in the box, but a tonne of spare bitz, which is nice.

Means my old Strike models can still see play, I simply bought the new box just for the Breachers.

Breachers and Pathfinders are Max unit size 10, Striketeam is 12
The real shocker is Crisis Battlesuits are Min 1 max 9.
Makes the crowded Elite slot a little easier to work with.
