If memory serves, it's from when WD told us how to make a Spartan out of Landraider and Rhino bits*, and use what was left* to make a Sabre.

* plus various bits of plasticard, of course. And possibly bits of old Zoid, given the 40k team's preference for using them in the Rogue Trader years. Having Grav-Attack flashbacks now...

I looked up "tank destroyer" on Google and not a single image on there resembles the Rhino in that video. It's without a doubt an Easter egg. Or the animators saw one somewhere and figured it was a real tank and just went with it.

That picture is a WW1 British Heavy Tank, not sure which Mark precisely. It was never called a "Daemon" though ...

And the original Land raider shares only a passing similarity to the Heavy Tank, it's far closer to the Leman Russ (if you add a turret).

I remember that article from way back when.
I really enjoyed the early days of WD and GM and how things were inspired and scratch built. Really took me back to my childhood.

Yup, it dates from a time before battlecannons, when autocannons were perfectly suitable tank guns.
The *******-child made from the leftovers of land raider and rhino used to make a spartan (plus other greeblies).

I'm going with the Sabre. Definitely not WW1 tank, they were rhomboid in shape, (back and front sloping forwards), and the squat sloping forward and rear armour shape does not exist in real world armour.

Aw man, I really miss the days of pre-photoshop where GW editors used modelling effects for gun blasts and explosions, AND scratch built the $#!t out of scenery and custom model/tank builds.
