Can independent characters join a Kastelan Maniple?

Pretty much what it says. I'm hoping for yes, and given that it's a mixed unit and has a formation which features ICs as part of it, I would guess so. I am currently missing my rule book, so I can't muddle through the rules myself right now.

Independent characters can not join units of monstrous creatures.

The IC's in that formation are given express permission due to that formation. No additional allowed.

unless you take the Kastellan formation - then you can include a Dominus (as part of the formation), unknown if you can add further Characters though (I wish you could add a Grey Knight Librarian, sanctuary and Gate of infinity and hammerhand or Divination/telepathy as well on them...)
