Morning all,

I have built up quite a force of Tau ready for painting and want to achieve a colour scheme of:
Dark gray cloth sections, bone/cream-ish armour sections.

I have the Army Painter grey spray and it's gone onto the models well, but what I want to know is:

1) whether the GW badab black or devlan mud washes will work well with the sprayed grey?

2) how would people recommend to darken and dirty the armour sections? I think i'll be painting the armour either simply dheneb stone, or dheneb stone with bleached bone on top. Can the washes be used?

3) is the Army Painter quick shade that much better than GW washes? It seems easy to use, but is expensive and causes a slight shine so I will need to use dull coat which means more expense again

4) How similar is the Army Painter bone spray to GW bleached bone? I want to paint my tanks and suits predominantly bone/cream so this will be a faster and easier option.

I hope that's not too confusing, have tried to find things via google with no success. I'm a long term Death Guard player so am not used to this whole 'fancy', 'neat' and 'nice' painting. Thanks for any responses, much appreciated.

Good gaming

Thanks, might try just that. But will washes work well on large areas such as the hulls of my tanks?

The washes work wonderfully on tank hulls and such. A good example is the Citadel Tanks book, as they show using the wash on a tau tank and creating the wake effect with Asuremen Blue. Personally my Space Wolves are done with Grey Primer and Asuremen Blue wash, including all the tanks. As long as you pay close attention to it so it doesn't puddle in the wrong places, the washes make some pretty amazing combinations with army painter primers. I suggest taking a look at the article I wrote on primers,

http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2009/11/hobby-primer-101-whats-in-can-man.html

which will give you a good deal of information on the Army Painter primers, and using them in conjunction with washes.(Not trying to pat myself on the back by linking to the article I wrote, as I wrote it because a good deal of my friends at the FLGS were asking me if I had worked with the primers and if I had tried using washes over them)
