So a few pics of WIP Storm Ravens are popping up over the web, i thought i'd post my pics as well.

Generally with the current plastic kits the only option is to base it on a Valkyrie, however the trick is then to make it look more Space Marine and less like a Valkyrie.

I decided to go with a landspeeder cabin to give me a more space marine feel, space marine crew, and also to allow the typhoon launchers to mount.

So who thought it would be a good idea to limit posts to four pics ???

Anyway

This pic shows the rear dread clamp, its made from bits off a vindicator and magnetised.

Heres a top view, you can see new central fin layout that runs to the back

Underneath you can see the "front hatch" TL assault cannons and rockets

Lastly a close up of the new fin layout

hopefully it doesnt look too much like a Valkyrie with a landspeeder stuck on the front of it.

It looks a bit like a Valkyrie with a landspeeder stuck on the front of it to me. I'm thinking trim off the back of the landspeeder and pretty much just keep the cockpit.

Yeah, it was bugging me most of the time i was doing it, to get around it i bulked up the landspeeder a bit and added some pipes etc to make it look more like part of the raven, i then intend to paint it in a way to make it look more similar.

Removed the landspeeder and tweaked the rear fins some more.

(the gap will obviously be filled out)

That looks better and is a very saavy use of the Imperial Eagle. Very fitting with the "Stormraven" I'd say. The plasticard construction will be key in bringing it together. I would leave a cockpit window between the nose and fuselage. Something similar to the old FW enclosed speeder. Maybe some Rhino hull bits would be of use???

Very cool use of the Eagle. I like that a lot more than the speeder. Karandras was right about the **** pit if you do it right the whole thing will look great.

Oh and possibly a little dittty on how you built the grapple on the back?

grapple hook is very simple, its the two side piston bars off a vindator bulldozer and the two sides off the bulldozer, anyone with a vindi kit will know what i mean, then simply a bit of rhino hatch across them.

Then some large magnets stuck onto it and the back of the dread (just below the pipes)

Looks good man. I also tried my hand on a storm raven conversion. Thanks for the idea using the vindicator parts for the clamp/magnet.

The eagle head addition was a stroke of genious. I think more marine Imperial Eagles would help add that 'marine' look you are after. FW make those large brass etched ones if money allows you. I can see them on the wings and down the fuselage (spelling).

Nice, Dread magnet is awesome! Agree with And justice for all on the cockpit.

You need to break up the Valkyrie outline a bit. Flipping the wings so the the angled side is the leading edge (like conventional aeroplanes) makes a big difference.

Thanks for all the feedback, i've incorporated as much as i could.

Heres the final build.

I've added engine covers to make it look more "tank" like (their not glued down yet)
http://www.wow-eu.com/raven/wraven1.jpg

On the front view you can see the nose mounted TL AC, the TL typhoon launchers, the rockets, and the hurricane bolters. i've also added some fuel tanks.

The rear fins are made from CoD buildings now

Underneath you can see the "front" hatch, as i imagine the marines dropping down out of it as the raven hovers

The Eagle face was pure brilliance and your final build is just awesome. The hurricane bolters work great. I wish I had your talent. Maybe this summer after I finish school I'll try your conversion if they haven't come out with a model for the Stormraven yet.

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! It is a fantastic conversion! The only criticism I have is that there isnt a frontal assault ramp... Despite this, dont change this model!

Yes, i did try to think of various ways to add a front ramp but nothing was possible without ruining the eagle look.

So instead i went for an underneath front hatch that the marines would "drop out", not perfect but at least i have the front access point modeled ;)

Undercoated red now, just going to apply a wash to darken it and then start detailing.

More pics over weekend maybe

Gorgeous model, Really good job with the conversion.
From a gameplay perspective, how do you plan on measuring the 2" disembarkation distance, and from where?

Given it has 4 access points i think i'll just measure from the oval base, since that is about the same size as the body of the model, there is actual four ports modelled, two side doors, the rear hatch and an underneath front access port that i'll treat as front.

Probably the best conversion I've seen so far. Good work!

That makes sense. I'd have no problem with that if I was playing you.

Hmmm...the cockpit on the finished model just screamed 'Marauder Destroyer' to me. Great conversion!!
