Hi everyone,

In the new AoS setting, where is the Gates of Azyr, Igneous Delta, and Aqshy in the Old World?
Was that area Altdorf?

In short - nobody actually knows.

The exact nature of The Mortal Realms remains largely unknown. It's not clear if they existed before the Old World was destroyed, or created as a result of that event.

I keep getting the impression its after the old world was destroyed based on the description of the ruins.
But, I am not sure and very confused.
I kept thinking the location of the starter set was the ruins of Altdorf.

The ruins of the World That Was (The Old World) are in the Realm of Azyr, Sigmar build his giant forge around it and they mine Sigmarite from its surface.

The Mortal Realms aren't part of the World That Was, they're each separate domains, unimaginably vast, they exist separate from each other, only linked by the Realmgates or the tunnels of the Skaven

The Warhammer world got blasted into oblivion. Its core remains, surrounded by a star-fortress Sigmar had built. As for the rest of it, especially specific pieces... no one knows.

My personal pet theory is that the "realms" are chunks of the planet that were saved by the Old Ones, who bound the winds of magic to them, in the hopes of some day reforging the planet, along with the bound winds of magic, to use against Chaos, perhaps as some kind of "ultimate weapon." So any of the realms could have once been the area of Altdorf... or perhaps none of them. The city is long gone, and the people existing in the realms aren't the same as those from the Warhammer world. Yes, they're the same races, but different, like the Old Ones had also recreated the races but in an imperfect manner.

Do not forget that there was a considerable amount of time (as humans measure it) before Chaos attacked and began conquering the Realms, and a considerable amount of time has passed since the attack started. It would not be unheard of for a civilization to be built in a 1000 years and be only identifiable as rubble a 1000 years after that. Heck, just finding anything after a millenia of warfare or lack of maintenance is props to the builders for building it so strong in the first place.
