I'm primarily a Xenos player, but with the popularity of the Demi Company formation it has me wondering...

How do you equip your Tactical Squads?

Short answer: It depends.

Long answer: What do you want them to do? What role do they fulfil in your army? As a rule, I buy a special weapon and the matching combi-weapon on the Sergeant for 5-men troops and rarely buy a full unit. If you need anti-tank, go for meltas in a pod, anti-hordes flamers in a pod or Razorback, anti-Marine plasma or grav in a Razorback (assuming you get free transports of course).

I'm old school, missile launcher and flamer, it was all they came with in RTB01.

Still my favourite missile launcher design by a country mile.

Conveniently sold in 5-packs by FW nowadays. Bit pricey though.

This one's probably more appropriate; It has the flamer (and a meltagun) too.

I like to keep my tactical squads pretty bare bone, but then again I prefer my squads to do something and do it well. Adding a plasma or melta gun to a unit means shots are waisted, either the special weapon is being used as overkill, or its shooting at something the bolters are being wasted on. If I want to add anti-armor to a squad, I'll put it in a razorback.

I don't have enough heavy support or vehicles yet to be able to rely on TF cannons or predators to kill my sons mega-armored nobz. So I tend to (in Combat Patrol, so far) equip my tac squads with a multi-melta and a plasma gun. If I want more units, I break them into a combat squad with the sergeant and the two special weapons in one, and five plain vanilla marines in the other. Don't usually do that, though. I might try it tonight and see if it works better, but five marines with bolters aren't able to do much against 12 ork boyz or 13 termagants or 10 kroot, so it seems pretty pointless.

My go to option is usually missile launcher and flamer just as they were supposed to be ;)

But alot depends on what I am playing. Facing hordes I probably wouldn't bother with metla guns, whereas if I was going against a mech army it would be meltaguns and multimeltas.

I try and have them tooled up so that they fight similiar threats so plasma guns with plasma cannon, melta guns and multimelta etc.

I had no idea these were available, thanks folks.

I don't need any, but options are always nice.

5 man squads with a heavy weapon in razor back, 5 man meltacide squad with the sarge having a combi melta in a pod, 10 man unit with a heavy bolter, I never fill out both weapon options, it always means something will be wasted

also depends on the chapter. Iron Hands maintain a lot of energy weapons, so I go for grav guns. If I had a Salamanders army it would have to be flamer and multi melta every time. as a general rule though, I prefer to keep them for a single purpose.Originally I always put las cannons in tactical squads to spread them out, but you just end up with a las cannon marine shooting a vehicle, and nine others doing nothing. missile launchers are good for the flexibility, or a nice heavy bolter to augment the other bolters, and a combi weapon on the sergeant.
