For the Sanguinors armour I painted using metallics. I'm not a fan of NMM as it isn't realistic although looks good.

For the wings I started with a base of Astronomican Grey and then gave this a wash of blue. This was followed by successivley building thinn layers of white feathering them towards the shadows.

Im reading through this thread again and Im sure I commented on it before (but could not find it): did you use the non-metallic metals technique on the Sanguinor? If so, it is very realistic!

Good stuff, man. Personally I'd paint on a little tip on the cyclone missiles, just black looks a bit bland. Perhaps a small yellow, red, or light grey tip?

I am blown away by the gold effects on the stormshield detail and the small heraldry shield detail on the shoulder. Very awesome stuff! It looks like non-metallic metals, which from what I gather you are achieving using metals! I think you, sir, have discovered a new technique!

As far as the boarding marine is concerned, I normally wouldn't drop that kind of money on a single mini, but it's going to fit in with my Minotaurs project just right.

@Digitarii: Wow, I don't even know who Bonnie Anderson is. I have always wanted to get my hands on Sgt Centurius, and the Blood Angels cptn from the box art that GW released at Games Day two or three years ago. The old school boarding marine just looks bad@$$.

@And_Justice:I really like your directional shading and highlighting. Your blending to darker colors in areas further away (or blocked from) the light source is awesome. Do you also employ line-highlighting along the very edges of the plates?

I do quite alot of layering and feathering but do add the odd line highlight. Do ask if you aren't clear on what they are. :)

Really nice. The dark, visceral red on the Space Hulk termies really makes them look brooding and dangerous! The bright bone and gold make for a great contrast as well.

I have the same set from Space Hulk (well, I guess everybody else does too who bought SH), and I was thinking of painting mine with either claw marks in the skull to echo the slash on the helmet, or a bullet hole.

No, I use real metallics all the time but work into it with highlights and washes to get a varied tone.

That is a really nicely done Imotekh! My only slight criticism with him would be the eyes, there doesn't appear to be anything there. Absolutely love the black and green chestplate.

Some of the poses of the IG models are amazing and you can picture them on the battlefield.

The free hand drawing is outstanding esp on the BA librarian! It had def inspired me to try and get better with my painting and to look at different ways of painting!

Thanks chaps! The feedback is helpful too about the eyes. I have redone them after your observation but also realised the lighting of the mini for the photo was a little to blame too. It put them in quite a deep shadow!

I think apart of from the obvious (practice, practice practice.....you get the idea) I would suggest using quite thin paint and work in layers. This way you will get it smoother and you have more control. Sometimes I use an acrylic retarder which slows the drying paint allowing it to be more workable for longer. Good art shops sell it in tubs. Hope that helps.
