So, I'm sure some of you are also following the Ultramarines movie production and such. If you're not (or even if you are), today they released the cast. GW isn't pulling any punches here:

Terence Stamp
John Hurt
Sean Pertwee
Steven Waddington
Donald Sumpter
Johnny Harris
Ben Bishop
Christopher Finney
Gary Martin

The first two alone blew my mind. Those are actors with SERIOUS pedigrees. I can't wait to hear them voice some Marines. Will be badass.

Okay, so I read their bios and all that... but aside from John Hurt, I have no idea who these people are, and even John Hurt gets the "oh yeah, that guy" reaction.

I'm sure the movie will rock though.

wow, thats an awesome lineup...Sean Pertwee as well..wow! still weirds me out a bit at how much he looks and sounds like his Father (RIP). Donald Sumpter was awesome in Being Human and I like Terence Stamp and
John Hurt too. Wicked. Even though I dont care for Smurfs and CGI im still excited for it! Just hope they dont pick a boring-*** enemy like orks or chaos legions though.

I watch a LOT of movies, and I don't instantly recognize any of those names, which scares me a little.

A lot of british guys, and most are quite old, not to mention skinny. I see a lot of work in the hands of makeup artists... I was expecting more big guys a la Mickey Rourke tbh.

But they are all very good actors (the ones I knew), so there's that (and it's hardly nothing).

Again, we're in the hands of the director (photography director too) and the makeup/special effects fellows, if they nail it, we're safe.

good thing its CGI/motion capture then. saves on make-up, though i dont really see any marine being young as such, it takes most of a (conventional, modern) lifetime to get in on serious action. anyone else wonder if john hurts son played nids? what a sense of irony thatd be lol. im glad the line up seems to be all brit, it kinda makes a change from the usual action/adventure films, i think people forget about our sci-fi pedigree over here.

Is it going to be avatar-level of cgi? Because if so I think they did an awesome job with casting.

avatar like? i dont know, im still in 2 minds about the CG in that film, its either the best CG ive ever seen in a movie, or its the best cg available to games developers. much prefer that in the new FF game, avatar was a bit fuzzy round the edges for me, but then i only have the cinema in the village hall, so maybe it wasnt focussed right.

Not exactly the A list of the Actors of Great Britain (apart from Hurt), but not bad either.
For some of the geeks out there, Terence Stamp was General Zod in the Superman films, Jor-el in Smallville and Supreme Chancellor Valorum in Star Wars Episode I.

Heres a clip of Donald Sumpter from Being Human (as Vampire/Supernatural Hunter Kemp) Personally I'd think he make a good Inquisitor......

AWESOME!! Gorgeous!!

But being a UK movie and done in the UK I miss one particular voice that also lives there: Sir Christopher Lee.

I´ve always imagined Marneus Calgar with his voice!!

Anyway the cast is very good and with popular actors so we will see how them work!!

Apart from the films the Voice of Killzone and Medieval Total War! "The enemy general flees, like the worthless Curr he is!"

Excellent choice.

These guys have been hired for their very distinctive commanding English voices.

I guess they couldn't afford Patrick Stewart!

That said the guys they've got are pretty impressive for an animated production with such a niche audience

It's good to see almost all of them have previous voice acting experience. I'm glad they didn't go for a big name who can't voice act (very different to stage acting as there are no visual cues and you have to stand still) like many animated films have done recently.

I can vouch for the truth of this. If I want to intimidate, I use my native Russian accent. If I went instant obedience, English public school accent gets the job done.

NO! Hes Scottish! lol

Lets face it, if you want sinister or powerful you've got two choices, English or Russian.

The freaking Honey Monster is in it!! haha

seriously though I was also supprised that I'd recognise any of the actors they'd got in.

I do hope they beef their voices or something though, otherwise you get the Darth Vader Before James Earl Jones effect :D

John Hurt voiced a rabbit in "Watership down", and Terrance Stamp played a cross dressing homosexual in "Presilla, queen of the desert", so they must be the Ultramarines commanders. Sean Pertwee was outstanding as a squad leader in "Dog soldiers", so he must be playing a sergeant who saves the Ultramarines from being totally nerfed by GW.

Actually the fact that they AREN'T well known actors is a plus for me.

Many great movies, like Animal House or the M*A*S*H movie or the Lord of the Rings trilogy films starred a great deal of unknown actors. Conversely, many actors become impudent douchebags who aren't worth a damn when they get fame.

Sean Pertwee has done 40k stuff before, he was Governor Severus in Firewarrior. Now if he was Severus in this film, then that would be a little too freaky.

I really want Radec's voice as a Space Marine when the helmet's on. That would be pretty epic.
