View Full Version : Imperial Crusade - a collectors dream?

How do?
So with the advent of Adeptus Mechanicus as a playable army, all the various chambers militant of the Imperium is now represented on the board.
Looking at my existing Skitarii and Imperial Knights (soon to be boosted by two boxes of Kastellan Automata), I find myself egging me on to develop this into an apocalypse scaled Imperial Crusade force.
For those wondering what a Crusade force is, particularly in this instance, it's a combined army of the Imperium, with all the various factions and forces represented.
Backbone to mine is clearly the Mechanicus, as that's the current core and the one army I'm most interested in playing for now. So I'm thinking an Explorator Fleet, perhaps on some mission to reclaim a certain sector in the name of the Omnissiah. From there, I'm thinking perhaps a Platoon or two of Imperial Guard basic infantry - and some Tanks.
Adeptus Astartes? The smallest yet most potent single element of the force. I'm thinking, because this is Apocalypse, of using the Vanguard Veteran models, but rules for Captains instead of just Marines - their role is the traditional 'if kill all your command, you're stuffed mate', and I want them to fight close to Movie Marines
And when we get plastic Sororitas, I'll be having a conclave of them and all.
Anyone else attempted a Crusade army?

Kinda. I don't have any Mechanicus forces yet, but ever since 6th dropped I've been experimenting with various combined Imperial forces. Never yet played with all of them at once, though.

Lord Inquisitor Thralmar of the Ordos Xenos has bolstered his compliment of Tempestus Scions by requisitioning the forces of Tech-Priest Dominus, Magos Grulph, consisting of the blessed maniple of Skitarii from Forge World Binarx VI and the forces of the Priesthood as well as several Knights from the House Daltari.
I'm so happy. Now, Forge World just need to write some rules so my Thallaxi, Thanatar and Castallaxi in 40k games.

it isn't something I specifically planned, but I do have a guard army, several marine armies, skitarii, and will get sisters when they come. so I suppose so...

Yeah, a Black Crusade. Dark Mech, cultists, traitor marines and daemons. Ooooh tasty!

I'm slowly working on a Rogue Trader Captain's army. It also allows me to use old Necromunda models as various units or character types, I can mix together the multiple types of old metal Guardsmen (including some from Rogue Trader days), old style Space Marines, my Guard tanks I converted for Orks (they're just mercenary tanks in this case), my "dishonored" Knight, any conversions I can think of (i.e. Ogre Bulls into Bullgryn, Dwarfs into Squats, etc.), and mixing in all the newer goodness.
One of my next projects for the army, when I can hunt down a few more Arbites with shotguns, is to get a Taurox and the wheel conversion kit for it, then paint the Taurox like a law enforcement vehicle and have the Arbites run as a Veteran squad with shotguns and grenade launchers riding in a Taurox (wth the Grenadiers option to upgrade their armor, too).
It might not ever be the most effective army on the table, but it'll have a lot of character.
I just wish you could do stuff like that with more than just Imperium and, to a lesser extent, Eldar. (Maybe Chaos, but eh, their "three" forces used to all be one big faction.)

I have inadvertently built one as well...
Marines, Grey Knights, Wolves, BAs, Valhallans, Imperial Knights

I have ONCE fielded before (and will never take to the time to do again):
Ultramarines, Inquisition, Sororitas, Millitarum, 30k Mech, Assasins and a Knight
it is in a word very very tedious but very very fun

the only thing not in this pic is the sororitas

While I can easily field a full Imperial combined Crusade style list the PV and scale needed is too unwieldy for 40k and far better represented in Epic scale. I'm personally not a fan of spending half the day on a game turn. :p

Dude! Thing of beauty is thing of beauty!
Not sure I'd go with pansy Ultramarines.
Perhaps some double-hard Iron Hands, to keep the Mechanicus Central theme...

with the smurfs I think was sort of my homage to the old Ultramarines codex inside pic of the whole chapter
but overall this unit was sort of Ultramar themed, each gaurd unit was supposed to represent a different planet, the mechanicum and knights were supposed to be reppn' Konor, the local mechanicum stronghold, and then the inquisitorial forces were represent n Talasar Prime, tbh im not actually sure if there's a specifically know/stated Sororitas compound I think that might be why I didnt snap em it was a a year or two ago now.

Is anyone else irritated by the fact that GW came out with the Adeptus Mechanicus codex and are now producing models that are not included in it, Kastelan Robots and Kataphract type dudes to mention but a few?

Not really. Anyone paying attention to the rumors would have known that was the plan. If the two mini-codexes are the same price, the combined army is only about $10 more than a regular codex.
I'd be irritated that the Harlequin codex cost almost twice as much if I wasn't so overjoyed to finally have a Harlequin codex again.
I'd rather they kept coming out with new stuff than the old method of never making new stuff for 14 years.

I wish it had been Skittari formation and Cult Mechanicus formation in one book instead of two codexes, but I don't know of anyone who is only playing a single book.
