Years ago I had one of the old Agmat Thudd Guns.

I had picked it up in a one of the old sales GW used to have when they would clear all their old stock out for peanuts. Old Bob Olley Ogryns for £1 a blister; Techpriest Enginseers and two Servitors for 50p. I know, I can't believe it either, but it was real. I still have the flyer somewhere.

Anyway, I had this old model, and it was supposed to be a Thudd Gun. I found out later that it was produced by a French company called Agmat, who had a 40K license for a bit. I really liked the model. It was great. So, having randomly remembered it, I went on eBay, thinking 'Maybe I can use it for a heavy weapon team'.

Fifty bloody quid they want for it nowadays! Fifty quid!

So I did what I always do when something's too much money: I just scratchbuild something.

I tried making wheels, but couldn't, and I couldn't find any 3rd party artillery wheels I liked that were a reasonable price. So, I just did dug-in emplacements instead. Not sure what they'll count as. Probably autocannon heavy weapon teams or something. I'm quite pleased with them though. Just need some bases for them. :) I might make a radar dish emplacement, have them as embedded Hydra autocannon or something as part of a scenery piece.

I'd say more of a Sabre platform than a heavy weapon team. cool though.

Zinge Industries do some decent wheels, as do Victoria Miniatures

Yeah, looked at both of those. Prices were a little too high for me to justify.

I may just have spent a silly amount of money on AdMech stuff, you see. :)

Sabre platform is a good idea, too. I hadn't even thought of that...

Zinge are £4 for four wheels, not exactly breaking the bank :p

You could actually just use it as a Thudd gun :D Or maybe a heavy mortar to avoid confusion a bit. It is certainly a large enough calibre for that.

But I'd need them to match, which would have doubled the price. :)

And I need to save money for those Onager tanks.

My word they're pretty. :)

need them to match what?

Hmm... maybe instead of wheels, you could make legs? Or tracks.

Each other! :)

The Zinge kit comes with 2 different types of wheel, and I'm a stickler for conformity in my armies. :)

Now that's out the way.
I like them. Though looking at the rivets, well you must have some patience.

looking at them again, the gunner seems to have his view blocked by the gun shield, is he just saturating the area because he can't see? :p

About three episodes of 'Game of Thrones'. :) Which the wife and I were rewatching in preparation for season 5.

Watching the very first episode is the most awful retroactive experience. All those Starks, so happy together, such a lovely family and you're like SPOILERS (highlight to read): 'None of you know: this is as good as it's ever going to be for you. It's literally all going downhill for all of you from here, without ever picking up.'

Not to mention poor Theon. His mistakes are all so much worse knowing where they lead him. :(

Trust me, they can see over the top.

Just.

I was wondering if I should have done a scope/viewfinder/slit or something, but I remembered this crazy Russian cannon I saw at the Muckleburg collection (I think it was there, anyway...) which had exactly this kind of thing - just this massive shield you were supposed to look over the top of because That's Exactly How Armour Works. Struck me as exactly the sort of dumb thing the Imperium would do.

'Sir, how do we see through the shield?'
'Just look over it. It's not that hard to work out.'
'But sir, how will it keep us safe from the enemy's firepow -'
BLAM
'It's not the enemy's firepower you need to fear, gentlemen. Now, look over the top of the f***ing thing and stop asking so many questions.'

I like to think he just shouts 'suppressing fire!' instead, and opens up.

Eventually, I'm going to get round to painting my Valkyrie. And when I do, this pin-up girl is going on the side:

Spiffy. May use those for my Purge Detachment.

Or he could be wearing a Tactical Headset.
