Ok i know that if you get hit by a weapon with double your Toughness and fail the armour save it pretty much kills you.
Now lets say i hit a Model with Toughness 8 with a D Strength weapon does that still kill it if its double its Toughness???

St D is instant kill reguardles of toughness, unless you have Eternal Warriror. Though you do still get Invunrable saves mind you.

Example: A Hive Tyrant on his max of 4 wounds and is Toughtness 6 is hit by a St D weapon, he is instantly killed. Same for a Toughness 8 Wraithlord

A Bloodthirster and Lysander are hit by a St D weapon. Both lose only 1 wound if they fail thier invunrable saves as both have Eternal Warrior.

Only thing in Apoc the kills out right reguardless of wounds, Eternal Warrior or anyother rules is the Vortex Grenade.

Other things in regular 40k can but they are know already (JotWW, Nemeis force weapon etc).

Super Heavys/Titans/Gargantuant Creatures are never insta killed, they lose a random number of structure/mass points as noted in the Apoc Book.

Don't forget the Vortex Missile from the big Titans, MC TiC Tac!

Or indeed, Vortex grenade.

They don't cause ID, they just remove models, terrain and small children that wander too close to the table.

I think the better way to think about it, Rosette, is to think of two effects:

Instant Death. Kills a model regardless of how many Wounds it has.
Model Removal. Model is removed from the table. It does not take Wounds, it does not die, it does not pass Go, it does not collect $200. It is just taken off the table.

Instant Death can be conferred in many ways. Having Strength double a unit's Toughness is one way to get Instant Death, but hardly the only way. Being a Destroyer weapon is another way to get Instant Death.

Similarly, Model Removal can also be conferred in many ways (though it is far rarer than Instant Death). Old-edition force weapons and vortex weaponry come immediately to mind.
