As a bday present to myself I finally got some of the Tomb kings Sepulchral stalkers which I've wanted since they came out in 2010! This will be a full army eventually as I just love these models so much. I don't play the game (allthough ill see what 9th has to offer..) so I am just doing the army I *want* rather than anything legal/playable - this is purely a "cos it looks cool" force. I am aiming to do a whole horde of these things, with a few of the Sphinxes to back them up. I'd really like to convert up a tomb queen with her lower self being snake-like too if I can find a way to do that.

Heres the start I've made to give you an idea of the scheme and feel :

Built them first..

Undercoated black, drybrushed darker to lighter greens then did the teeth in a pale green, I decided I didn't like the eyes though.

So I blacked out the markings around the eyes and put a dot of white paint in the sockets instead. Also started the staff.

Thinking of putting a gentle yellow drybrush over the main body, and attempting to paint the staff to look like it is glowing - perhaps blue! Suggestions welcome :)

I normally have the worst memory ever, but somehow I seem to manage to remember pointless stuff like that!

Sweet. Very Necron-looking.

I'd really like to convert up a tomb queen with her lower self being snake-like too if I can find a way to do that.

Use the lower body from the Sslyth (http://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Dark-Eldar-Sslyth) perhaps? Or from the Bloodwrack Medusa (http://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Dark-Elves-Bloodwrack-Shrine), depending on how tall you want her to be?

Then again, if the snake tail is mummified as well, you could just make a bandaged sausage out of green stuff easily enough...

Very nice! Like the understated paintjob - overdetailing can sometimes make creepy models seem less creepy. Your idea for a light drybrushing sounds good - bring out some of the details without overpowering the model.

Usually when I'm painting "magic" details, I like all the magic to glow in the same way, so I'd vote for the weapon-glow to match the eyes.

Maybe surround them with bases of skeletal snakes? Should be pretty easy to sculpt with your tube-roller and making a pressmould of a snake skull. Actually, do Tomb Kings have a swarm unit? I assumed they had scarabs, but can't find them on the webstore. The tubemakers could be a good starting point for a mummified snake-tail for the Queen.

I couldn't find any scarab-like units no. I must admit i'm really lazy with bases - but I was thinking of some kind of swamp/temple esque bases.

I decided to add some brass to the helms as I think they needed a little something extra. ill add a black wash and then drybrush it gently with a little gold afterwards.

Finished the bronze, and am happy with it!

Not sure if I should do any more bronze areas. I think I need to rest on it and give it a little thought.

Like the idea of the swamp/temple bases, it'll be a fun change to see Tomb Kings without a generic desert base. The bronze is a nice touch.

Actually, do Tomb Kings have a swarm unit? I assumed they had scarabs, but can't find them on the webstore.

They have "Tomb Swarms," one-piece 40mm metal bases full of scarabs and scorpions and centipedes (no skeletal snakes... Lizardmen Jungle Swarms have live snakes though). They disappeared off the webstore recently and haven't yet been resurrected in Finecast.

Ah, never saw those before - thanks for the info. I tend to avoid metal and resin as a rule though as I hate super glue XD

Very, very nice bronze colour. Do you have a plan for the core?

I'm just going to have about 12-18 of those guys then a converted command squad and a pair of the necroshinxes.

So since AoS has been in full swing, iv gotten more into finishing this army lately -

It's only missing two integral units - a converted sepulchral stalker hero and the centrepiece of the entire army, an undead bloodwrack medusae that has will be carried by two necropolis knights. I just need the bloodwrack medusa kit to finish this army off. I also need to finish the bases - I've been slacking with that.

If you're looking for snakes for the bases, a good source is the Bastiladon from the Seraphon range, as one of the two versions it can be built as has loads of snakes pouring out of the thing the beastie carries on its back. Really nice (and sinister) looking army that.
