I know I know, GW is evil, can do no good, but these new figure cases, specifcically the diagonal foam trays look pretty innovative and ... actually makes makes me want to get one of these cases. Wish they would go ahead and sell the foam trays independently but I'll take what I can get! :)

I'd really like to give it a try at least, looks interesting, pretty locked into my KR cases now (i've got 10) but I might buy a Skirmish to try it out.

I wish that they would include the case outer dimensions in the product descriptions. I need to know which size case I can get as a carry-on for air travel. Eyeballing it, it looks like the skirmish will be the only one since the middle one looks to be a bit tall... but I have no real frame of reference to accurately judge it.

using the knight titan as a reference, (8 inches as per GW webstore), it looks like a decent estimate would be around 12x8x16 (ish) inches for the crusade case, the battle case appears to be a couple inches taller than that maybe 14x8x? just a guess though. the prices are surprising good though. not fantastic mind you, but i've seen cases go for more.
Crusade is $124
Battle is $83
Skirmish is $50

The ones in the vid are small, there is some pretty big cases and the storage dividers are great for sizing each compartment to suit.

These look... really good. The diagonal foam is a really nice idea. I could never get the slot stuff to work properly with anything more complicated than a Space Marine in standard pose (and it's hell with Dark Eldar Scourges). Those boxes never quite held as much as I felt they should.
The Crusade one looks great for storage. Just need to fill it with undeads...

I'd get the foam inserts if they did them separately, but the cases are again too overt in their use.
I'm far happier with my KR suitcase style cases which don't scream "HERE ARE MY TOY SOLDIERS!" to every passer by.
Don't get me wrong, i'm not ashamed of my hobby, but its nice not to broadcast the fact i'm off to play toy soldiers to the greater world.
I'm pretty sure a lot of others feel the same, and it wont help sales as much as if they had GW written tastefully in a corner.

Around here, people think that the citadel cases are gun cases... which they kind of look like cheap gun cases.
I don't recommend using them for that purpose however since they are rather flimsy and they don't have any locking mechanism! :P

I told her that I could either be painting plastic toys or getting knackered at the bar. Her choice.

The cases are tiny, but fit loads! My local GW was playing with their delivery this lunchtime, and they fit the entire contents of Dark Vengeance into half of the Skirmish case (one of the two trays). To say that I'm impressed is an understatement! If you don't have tanks/fliers/knights, a Skirmish case is all you need to carry an army.
I don't like the look of the Battle case, it's dimensions just seem off to me. Looks too short & stout, like a lunchbox or something. I'll probably get a Crusade and a Skirmish.

I'm thinking you should be fine. the description on the webstore mentions spikey models in particular. The Crusade case is already in 'Temporarily Out of Stock' status - well, that was fast!
"Packing and unpacking the case is absurdly quick and easy; any model, however pointy, placed anywhere within the channels will be protected as well as if you’d spent countless hours hacking away at a custom fit. You’ll free up more time to concentrate on games, painting or just showing off your miniatures collection. The channel foam is as efficient a use of space as possible, allowing you to store more models more safely than any other case. Have a look at the images or check out the video in the tab to the right to to get a taste for just how life-changingly excellent these cases are - you won’t be able to work out how you lived without them. It’s ok. Those dark times are over now.
We know that you want the best protection for your miniatures - the foam inside the case is slightly larger than the case itself, and will compress around the figures when closed, ensuring a minimum of movement for any miniature.. It also has nylon catches, so if you should drop it the catches won’t break. To ensure the robustness of the stress points, a metal hinge runs along the back, strengthening and adding a reassuring weightiness."

There's been a lot of preorders at the local GW store with the Crusade case, so I'm not surprised.

I just picked up and loaded my crusade case. It holds all of my gants, gaunts, genestealers, warriors, zoanthropes, malanthropes, broodlords, and hive guard conversions. The trays are clearly designed for imperial armies with sturdy weapon barrels and smooth profiles.
It is a nice and heavy duty case that is pretty light and a manageable size. The strap is nice and the hooks for it are a nice heavy metal. It includes 4 of the nested trays (8 total). The foam seems to be pretty tough and high quality and the floating dividers are designed to not break out in a stiff breeze.
My 40ish genestealers are a real challenge for this system. Basically they're riding in a bottom tray with their arms resting on the tops of the dividers. The wavy dividers have me nesting my gants with their tails running along side the next one. The resin venomthropes will not be an easy placement.
I'm not sold on the ease of putting models in and taking them out. Having to not get caught on floating dividers with aspikey bit slows it down versus a fitted slot.
Big models will result in the top tray of that particular block being discarded or thrown on top as a cap (upside down).
Overall I'm pleased with it. It's taken care of my infantry problems. I'll be looking to battlefoam or kr multicase for my gargoyles, shrikes, and MC needs.

Sounds about like what I expected. My Orks should be fine because they're sturdy, but some things like Skeleton Archers could have an issue. I'd be concerned about my Iron Warriors Warpsmith, but I've pretty much written that model off as a $30 loss due to the resin being so fragile pieces snap every time I try to handle it. It'll be interesting to see how a Verminlord works in there. Bloodthirster is an odd shape too, but it's not as thin in places as the Verminlord.

So I got my crusader case - I'm already thinking of taking it back though.
Its a GREAT case for infantry. Awesome. But I don't know how the hell they managed to fit Nagash in there. I can barely squeeze a couple of dreadnoughts and a pair of rhinos in the bottom trays.
Land raider? Forget it. Baneblade? not a chance. Eldar tanks or MCs? No way.
I squeezed a bunch of dreadnoughts a couple of rhinoes and pretty much all of my infantry into it. Couldn't fit a dreadknight or a stormraven or a single drop pod in though.
The crusade case isn't very big at all. Its easily carry-on sized for airlines. I was very surprised to see how small it was. I was expecting something a lot bigger.

DrBored
03-29-2015, 12:36 AM
I saw one in person as well, and they are indeed quite small, even the Crusade one. You can certainly fit a Knight or a couple of vehicles in there, but certain vehicle-heavy forces won't find much value here. I wouldn't recommend this for Eldar, Dark Eldar, Tau, Imperial Knights, or even armies with lots of big tanks or Drop Pods. :I
Great for armies that are troop-heavy, like Guard and Orks, but as soon as you add any unwieldy models like winged Hive Tyrants or Riptides or whatever, the space just diminishes very quickly.
If you want any of these boxes, use them for infantry, bring your vehicles and big things in something else.
Erik Setzer

For my Ork infantry, deff koptas, and Battlewagons, these cases seem pretty solid. Deff Dreads and Killer Kans, I'm a bit concerned, because those suckers can break way too easily.
My Khemri Warsphinx will never sit in one of these. But then, I haven't found a good means of transport for it yet, given the tall banner pole and all the thin spears sticking out in multiple directions.

For the bigger stuff, did you consider turning the top tray upside down? I know this limits it to big stuff and may not be cost effective though.

Am going to pick up the £50 one, see if I can't fit all my Ogres in it. Right now my GW cases take up far too much room in my flat, and these seem a bit more space efficient.
Plus, should be able to bung all my X-Wing models into a single case, which is nice. At present my Scum and Villainy are on the book case.

I manage to pack a SR, 3 drop pods, 11 dreadnoughts, two rhinos and a bunch of infantry in a toolbox thats smaller than the new crusader case.
Of course there's no padding (but the models are packed in there so tight there's no room for them to move anyways) but it should be possible to transport these models effectively. I have a bunch of pluckfoam that I can use in this new case and I'll try to make it work...
Basically even dreadnoughts have a hard time getting shoved in the foam. Vehicles are definitely an afterthought on these cases, no matter what they are.

obviously you will fit stuff in a toolbox, there is no foam in it.
I am aware of Battlefoam, KR Multicase are a better option. fact is, you will always struggle to fit larger models, especially fliers, in to a case because they take up so much of the tray. obviously you can get a custom tray, but that is an entire layer usually just for that flier and maybe a few small bits around the edges. so of course you are going to struggle.
it shouldn't surprise anybody that these new GW cases are aimed at infantry, they usually are. infantry make up the majority of armies, fantasy and 40k.

less bulk in parts but far more length/wingspan. mine flies from mission to mission in a cardboard box with a few inches of eggshell on the bottom. Aside from casing for figures the cost of foaming tens of thousands of points of vehicles has never really appealed to me, most of my stuff is in smaller tupperwares in larger tupperwares each surrounded by and stuffed in with all the bubblewrap that these guys come to me in

Detachable wings makes the Valk much easier to transport-- this can be accomplished by either a 1/8" disc magnet in the pylon "shoulder" at the front of the wing, or a sturdy pin going in to the wing root.

I tried magnets, but a series of smaller ones in a line along the interface between the wing and fuselage. Had the problem of not quite feeling sturdy enough to trust, and made it awkward to work out how to attach the elevator panel.

I think the key is to attach the pylons themselves to the hull, and just make the outer wing removable- this way it's just a bulky rectangle, instead of a giant cruciform nightmare. I'll see if I can find my camera and post a picture of how mine is set up.
