Good morning one and all.

After collecting space marines for almost 12 years, I thought it high time to get some painted. So, after stripping about 5000 points of dark angels, I decided I finally would attempt the ONE chapter that always appealed to me. Imperial Fists.

After a good amount of test models, I've finally settled on a technique that takes my fancy, and well, have a look at the results:

I'm quite happy with the weathering. Never liked the clean and crisp look for warriors. It's just not right.

I never ever ever ever get tired of the paint chipping effect, it just makes stuff look so much better, more brutal and more warlike to me.

Let's just hope I can keep it up. Got 2 whole battle companies with assorted vehicles to paint. Haha.

I know what you mean.....

I've got an entire Company waiting for the weather to improve so I can basecoat it with spray cans......

Not to mention the equivelent sized force of other assorted marines as well......

More updates to come soon!

Very happy Splatter today, as someone made on of my wargaming wishes come true. Since I started playing wargames, there have been a few armies that I have always wanted to own. Not because of the fact that they are competative or what not, but because of the way they look. Today I managed to finally break into the army I've had on number one since I was about 15 years old. ( Im 27, going on 28 soon, so that means something to me. ) The Vostroyan Firstborn.

Then today, someone traded me this:

-2 platoon command squads
-5 Infantry squads all with flamers,3 with heavy bolters and 2 mortars
-1 spare lascannon team
-3 snipers
-2 company commanders with power fists
-2 company commanders with plasma pistols and power swords
-1 spare sergeant and 1 trooper
-8 plasma gun troopers

12994

So they will be collected sometime during the next few days, and every now and then expect one of these bad boys to sneak it's way into the blog, most likely in in a ellow great coat.

I'd be having nightmares about painting yellow after that.

Aye, that is over 200 models, and then another 40 Tempestus Scions and then the Firstborn and then 3 knights.

ALL.... YELLOW.

Because I like the idea of a single coherent army, made up of different parts.

It won't be too bad. I'm a commission painter by trade, so I can take as many breaks from painting yellow as I fancy. Haha. Should have some new pics come the weekend. Just finished another 5 line marines, almost done with a dreadnought and just airbrushed 4 scions and Gideon Lorr in yellow. They will be played as allies with 2 Inquisitors in the command squads.

I'm impressed! All of your models look great, the scheme works well. And as mentioned the weathering and chipping never gets old, gives, in my opinion, marines the reect they deserve as soldiers constantly on deployment. And the first born... Lucky devil!

I did finish a Librarian that I'm fairly happy with, as well as the big guy himself... well, sort of. Mr Pedro Kantor. Just need to take a few pics and Ill slap em on here sooner, rather then later.

A little update on the House Hawkshroud project.

The 3 knights have been built, bar the armour plates, which I am leaving off for now for painting purposes.

These 3 knights will be fielded during the ETC 2015 in Prague for Team Malta, and as I am still waiting to hear which ranged weapon options they need, those have also been left off for now.

Disaster, Panic, Apocalypse! And more of such nonsense.

So, the ETC is only 2 months away and I only realized this over the weekend. I'll be going up for team Malta ( so come say hi if you happen to be in Prague around that time ) with my little yellow b*stards. I was also roped into letting the team use my 3 Knights.... that have now found 2 friends. ( Yes, I got myself 2 Wardens to fill out an all Knights army )

So, after closing up shop, I will be racing to get my army painted for the ETC deadline, which for me is the 6th of August.

The list!

Imperial Guard Command Squad
2x10 Imperial Guard Veterans
1 Primaris Psyker
1 ..... thing..... I plan to use as the Master of the Fleet.

1 Librarian
1 Sanguinary Priest
8 Sternguard
2x Command Squad
5x5 Tactical Marines

11 Drop pods

3 Imperial Knights

12 Objective Markers.

So, quite a lot to do in 2 months, but I remain confident..... for now. The Librarian and the first 15 tactical marines have been painted, but require some finishing work.

I did get my hands on Captain A... ga.... mem.... non? from Strikeforce Ultra, and after some repairs and changes, he will be the prize at the end of the run.

I'll be updating at least twice a week, mainly to keep myself motivated!

So, without further ado, I spent my sunday afternoon playing with my airbrush and slathering on the metallics on the Knights, the first project I'm starting on.

14405

14406

14407

14408

Today I'm aiming to get the metallics on the skeletons done, so washing and highlighting it, before adding some bright brass details to break the model up a bit. Also hoping to get the armour panels primed, so I can get to work with the airbrush again later this week. Because the Knights will be yellow as well. Haha

Ok, so less updates then planned, but we're still on it.

Just because I got bored over the weekend, I decided to kitbash a Sigismund, as I don't feel like paying 45 odd quid for a model that I don't like.

So, I built this:

Ugh, sorry for the lack of updates fellow followers of Dorn.

ETC was an absolute disaster gaming wise, baggage was lost on the way up and day 1 into the tournament I got my army back, with many many repairs to be done.

Save to say, I wasn't happy with the airline. At. ALL.

Anyways, onwards and upwards. In between commissions I have been working on a few other things, and I will be competing for an Armies on Parade melda in the Glasgow GW shop.

So, over the next few weeks Im planning to get that up to scratch. I'll post a few close ups of the units that are completely done, when they are done. Haha.

Hello Splatter Paint,

those are some awesome looking Imperial Fists!

The weathered look is very cool, I've been reading a variety of sources on how to do weathering/chipped effects for my Imperial Guard. Found a wide range of methods that can give many different results.

May I ask what technique/tools you used to produce that effect?

Thank you for your kind words Daxos.

The technique I used to create the weathering is surprisingly simple. Once the models are all painted up, but before I apply the OSL, I take a small piece of blister sponge and use the old GW foundation paint "Charadon Granite" and lightly dab the model with the sponge, applying this colour moderatly and randomly, making sure the legs are a bit more covered, as they would attract more dirt and dust then the rest of the armour.

If you'd like, I could always take a few step by step pictures next time I weather a batch of models ^^

Of course Pitaya ^^ The models were basecoated in the GW colour Zhandri Dust with a little bit of Karak Stone mixed in. After that has dried, I drybrushed the buildings with Terminatus Stone, from the GW Dry range. Easy as 1 2 3 ^^
