Atroclus

What’s all this then:
Well this is the fevered dream of a mad man. To explain, does anyone remember those massive global campaigns GW used to run? They were a bit of fun and gave us cool fluff and the ability to influence canon a bit, which is awesome right? Well for some reason GW stopped running them a few years ago, and left us with pretty much nothing.
Fast forward to now and I was sitting here writing some background fluff for my army, my Iron Warriors’ Warsmith; Atroclus Breakspear, who originally styled himself as Centurion (Legion Company Captain) and sought to build himself a functioning Crusade style Legion. His mad ambition extended so far as Daemonhood and declaring himself a Primarch (He could never be an actual Primarch but to his mind it’s just a matter of gaining power). Then I created his Lieutenants, 1st Lieutenant Cassander of the Iron Warriors, 2nd Lieutenant Khagan the Bloody of the World Eaters and 3rd Lieutenant Skyrar the Daemon-Wolf of the Dark Wolves.
Then I wanted to see what this Company of the Legion could do and started organising to run a campaign for my local gaming group, then however the idea expanded when I realised, an entire Legion wouldn’t concern itself with just one planet, they’d need an entire system to conquer. So the idea became this, an attempt to create and run a Fan-Made Global Campaign to bring together as many 40k Gamers as we can across the breadth of the world.
How will this work:
Glad you asked. The plan is to create the system and then for representatives from each gaming group to designate a Story-Master (Someone to run the campaign on their end) they will be given a planet within the Diamacharian System with which to run their portion of the Campaign. Each Story-Master will be able to designate the kind of planet it is (Agri, Hive, Death, etc.) and will oversee the manner in which it is split into its minimum 20 regions.
It is the Story-Master’s job to catalogue the Armies involved and the ebbs and tides of the War. All of this will be recorded online for interested parties to read and observe. Also from this we will build a massive story of Grim and Dark Fanon. The purpose is to give the game a bit more story beyond just placing miniatures on the board and rolling dice. I encourage all participants to write background for their generals and units.
Once one army has conquered an entire planet that part of the Campaign will either be over or the Story-Master can choose to take it to another planet.
How can I get involved:
Simple, contact me by PM if you’re interested in helping run this monster of an idea or start writing fluff for your army to participate in the Diamacharian Crusade.
Now the fun part, story time!
To the Galactic East of the Cadian Gate lies the Diamacharian System. Under constant threat by their proximity to the Eye of Terror the citizens are protected by the Space Marines of the White Lions of Dorn Chapter. Their Fortress Monastery takes the form of an Imperator Class Battle Barge; the Lion’s Roar and it cruises the System ever vigilant for threats and recruiting from the many worlds within their system.
As safe as the Diamacharian people feel, death stalks close, The Cadian Gate has been broken by Abaddon the Despoiler’s 13th Black Crusade and now the armies of Chaos march upon them. The Errant Warsmith, Centurion Atroclus Breakspear has turned his Company away from the fighting of the Crusade and together with his Lieutenants he hurries towards his prey like a hungry predator. He is not alone however as other lords and Champions of Chaos have flocked to his banner, further fuelling his dreams and ambitions of commanding an entire legion, for he will need it to combat an entire Chapter of the children of the hated Rogal Dorn…
Characters:
Atroclus Break Spear:
Rank: Centurion (Praetor upon the formation of XXI Legion)
Legion: Iron Warriors, XXI Legion
Allegiance: Undivided
Bio:
The Supreme Commander of the XXI Legion, his insanity does not burn with the mad ravings of a lunatic but is cold with the logic and callousness of a serial killer. He dreams of ascension and command, to finally equal the legends of his former master; Perturabo.
He believes that within the Diamacharian System he will find an object of power that will allow his ascension to Daemonhood and finally he will be able to claim the title of Primarch.
Cassander
Rank: 1st Lieutenant
Legion: Iron Warriors, XXI Legion
Allegiance: Undivided
Bio:
Atroclus’ second in command and the de facto leader of the Iron Warriors element of the Company. A gifted warrior and talented soldier, he has already reached the sum total of his ambition and thus is the perfect lackey for Atroclus. Unlike most of his kind he is content with his lot and serves diligently, constantly on the lookout for treachery, he is a loyal dog.
Khagan the Bloody
Rank: 2nd Lieutenant
Legion: World Eaters, XXI Legion
Allegiance: Khorne
Bio:
Formerly a simple line Legionary of the World Eaters he rose to prominence after he slaughtered and entire squad of Ultramarines in a berserker rage. While many bolt rounds found their mark he was miraculously unharmed, God of blood and slaughter clearly had plans for this one, and so it was he became the champion of the Chaos Lord Skargath whose band of World Eaters ravaged many planets, until they ran across Atroclus.
The Warsmith challenged Skargath for control of his warband after the Lord refused to join him willingly. The duel was over quickly when Atroclus melted Skargath’s head with a blast from his Combi-Melta. Khagan became the leader of the Warband and was granted the rank of 2nd Lieutenant within Atroclus’ company. The Berserker champion took to his new role with ease, leading the vanguard of Atroclus’ Company, the World Eaters became the shock troops the Centurion desperately needed.
Skyrar the Daemon-Wolf
Rank: 3rd Lieutenant, Jarl amongst his own men.
Legion: XXI Legion
Allegiance: Undivided, though gives special praise to Khorne on the Battlefield.
Bio:
The first Chaos Lord to ally himself to Atroclus without complaint. Skyrar leads the collective might of the Dark Wolves and commonly boasts that he is the greatest warrior Atroclus has, an idea that rankles greatly with 2nd lieutenant Khagan. The Dark Wolves constantly compete with the World Eaters element of the company to prove their superiority in close combat; rarely sharing the same battlefield for fear that they’d attack each other.
Atroclus tolerates the rivalry as he feels it pushes his warriors to greater heights, even so he only lets Command meetings run as short as possible not wanting Skyrar and Khagan to kill each other.
So this was all a little rushed in order to have something on the page, but what do people think? Could a Fan run global campaign work?
