I am exceedingly tired of the insults, especially the direct and childish ones (I rather like a subtle and clever insult, actually).

Continued insults will be dealt with harshly, up to and including erasing you and anything you have ever written.

He's bluffing. This is a Corbomite Maneuver if I ever saw one....

There's now way he could possibly make any of us just disapp-

Kidding... please don't ban me Jwolf.

As a side note, can we extend the Exterminatus to anyone posting "First" on the main site comments?

P.S. - First. Lulz.

Firsters are only marginally more annoying than firster complainers; it's hard to know where to end that purge.

Maybe just deleting the 'first post' posts. Would save even the 'fail' posts we get in reply to them.

I just want to express my thanks Jwolf.

I've drastically cut down my reading and posting here in the last couple of months because of rudeness basically. I (and I'm sure many other people) come here to have a friendly chat about the hobby, not read pages of people sniping at each other to prove who's the smartest.

Good call, Jwolf. Some of the debates here have gotten... heated, to say the least. I mean I'm all for a good-natured ribbing when I make an idiotic statement (hell I make those all the time) but some people have gone from debating to almost verbal assault.

I get tired of some this idiocy!! About time to get rid of unneccessary rudeness/insults etc.. There's enough of that already. It doesn't need to be brought into these discussions. We're supposed be having fun and enjoying this great hobby not looking for ways to 1 up each other. Great job!!

This is great news.

I visit this site only because the attitudes were meant to be so much more positive and welcoming than Warseer, but as time has gone by I am finding myself wondering whether that is still true.

An orbital bombardment here and there would definitely help.

^ Agreed. I mean, it's one thing to have a debate and defend your views firmly; it's another to devolve said debate into a verbal slugfest, so to speak.

After all, this is, at it's core, a hobby of toys. Granted it's more complex than that:D but at the end of the day, does being right about a trivial little rule or piece of fluff REALLY mean that much?

Still, glad to see that hopefully these forums will be heading back on track. I have faith in the BOLS admins.

Quoted for endorsement. The whole point of being on the BoLS rules forum to me is that I can get into a technical discussion of rules points and have faith that (i) the folks I'm debating with are good enough sportsmen to distinguish technical rules discussions from how we actually play the game, and (ii) people are not going to insult me in the course of the debate, whether because they disagree with me or otherwise.

Could not agree more. Everyone has the right to put their point across and if needs be explain their point. I don't think that if someone disagrees you then have the right to deride them. Are we all going to turn into more mortal versions of Malcador the " You are wrong because i am right "Sigilite .

Right. I enjoy having a friendly, technical argument over pointless stuff. No need to get worked up over stuff. Though the one time someone did openly call me an idiot, I actually found it pretty funny.

It dosen't show the site in a good light and hence why I personally don't post often (Just look at many of the Doom threads).

The last thing you want is the end up like the Infinity Ward forums (ugh!)

I've actually found the vast majority of the stuff here to be pretty friendly. Though I wouldn't really mind a blanket ban on doom arguments:rolleyes:. They keep popping up left and right, and no one agrees on anything, and just keep arguing in circles. And yeah, some people are getting kinda rude in them.

Yeah, heck, right now we've got four threads going on doom, or are directly related to doom:
Why do some people keep insisting that Spirit Leech is a psychic attack?
Measuring for embarked units
A transport protection
Doom of Malan'tai CAN still target embarked troops

And this is after the original thread was closed. Combined, I'd bet there's 70+ pages over this one little thing.

Specially considered that they found some leaked documents stating that Global Warning might not be happening. But all the signs are there, there's a "Sticky:" before the thread name and a http://www.lounge.belloflostsouls.net/images/visioncollison/misc/sticky.gif in the row.

But in the whole, I agree with some of the sentiments in this thread, this forum has changed a bit over the last few months, I just hope it doesnt lose the friendly attitudes that kept me here in the first place :)

Lol, excluding the doom thread, and one or two others in the past (Arjac's foehammer threads comes to mind), I've found the community here to be one of the more friendly that I've seen on the internet.

Good call. Some of the ridiculous heights of douchery that some of these debates have reached were starting to turn me off (ie: declaring whats in a transport debate and the 50 Doom threads).

I think that its the one down side of having discussions on the interwebz is that since you don't actually see the person and don't know them or have any sort of real world interaction with them. It is a lot easier to go over the top and act like a dick. On the other hand my local gaming club has a website with a forum that we all use and some times heated discussions come up as well. The latest one has been over whether or not to have heavy comp scores in our 40k tournaments but people seem to restrain them selves and pull back from the brink because they know everyone on the forum as real people and know that you are going to be hanging out with them next Thursday at the gaming store.

That said I really love these forums and blog and have been following it for almost a couple years now. Keep up the great work guys!

Same here.

Though I avoid the comment section on the blog now. The comments seem to consist of people insulting the poster indirectly for having the gall to post a tactica or list that doesn't say exactly what they want it to say.

I don't read most of the blog comments, either. I sometimes I get drawn in (like someone quite laughably claiming that inquisitorial stormtroopers were better than Sisters of Battle and that immolators were better than Exorcists)... but most of the time they're just mindless banter.

Yeah, I just got this reply to one of my disqus comments about the statistics of rolling more dice vs rolling fewer dice;

so what is more likely:
that you miss with all your 9 attack from ['nidz] warriors which you can easily get reroll onto both hit and wound or that your enemy passes all his 9 armor saves you first have to get with your gaunt attacks?

dont talk basics to me when I'm far beyond that level of depth, kid.

Never mind that my post in no way stated or even implied that gaunts are better at killing, say, terminators than warriors are. And never mind that one of the most basic principles of statistics is that the more iterations you do, the closer to average you will roll, which he seems to be disagreeing with. And never mind that he probably has no idea how old I actually am.

In the end, I'm just left wondering why I even bothered in the first place:rolleyes:.

Yeah people really go for the proverbial shotguns when it comes to rules for a game of miniatures. Which baffles me, because 40k first and foremost is a game.

Right. Why get worked up over something someone you'll probably never meet says about a casual hobby involving small pieces of plastic?

Ahhh man, and I was just getting good at this... Now I have to stop?! Lol.

One of the things that I have liked about bols is that I can disagree with people and we don't take into the next thread (shut up sangre!). Seriously I think I have probably gotten in a "friendly disagreement" with almost everyone who has posted on this thread, even jwolf. But still I feel more like a group of friends who don't have to agree all the time.... Almost like a dysfunctional family, lol.

All that said I think your spot on jwolf, I don't think bols would be hurt by a bit more modding (but not too much)

I think some of the discussion topics are also part of the problem. Threads that open complain about one troop type being a real *&^^(( for example or actively putting down a codex or troop type as the topic for a thread is really just putting it out there fishing for an arguement to start.

I know some of the replies to threads can gat side tracked and lead to head discussion and debating over each persond opinion, but swearing, and putting other people down, is too much.

I prefer to follow threads based on a persons army list where they need help for a game or competition, or nead help with tactics or rules. Or general discussion on rumours of future releases.

I hope other do not think I have crossed that line. I know I have defended my views about different army codexes or troop types or characters, a few times giving examples and not begrudged other peoples right to their opinion. As long as nobody gets rude or verbally voilent, we should be O.K. with most threads.

Spell checking, I type so quick sometimes I keep making typos like my previous mesaage I typed "have" twice as "ahve". Who cares, as long as you can understand what the person meant.

Could you close my thread - Nurgle's Rot, Aura of Decay and Allies - As I have had my question answered.

When RGilbert asked a slightly aggressive question about my thread, and I replied simply stating that no one have said Aura of Decay was a Nova Psychic Power, and that my question had been answered, and I considered it finished.

Tzeentches Dark Agent replied to RGilbert in a way I thought could start an argument. I replied stating that I had already answered RGilberts queston and that the thread was closed. He took this as a personal attack, so I had to again, diplomatically explain that I had not intended it as such.

TDA then said he would contact the site mediators, to have my thread closed for me, but nothing has happened yet and it has been over 8 hours.

The easier way to dispose of a thread is simply to let it die and stop bumping it to the top of the page by replying. That thread doesn't need active moderator attention - if every thread was locked after it became slightly heated, half of the posts in the rules forum would be locked. Mods typically don't close threads after the question has been answered. Even if you are satisfied with the answer, other people may want to ask questions or to add their own comments to the thread.
