Space Marines on pastures new...

Greetings! After a dodgy start to posting (posting an introduction thread twice- go me!) we're under starter's orders....

I am new to the BoLS lounge but not new to the hobby- I'm a regular over at DD and some may know me as Elnibbus (it did not occur to me to use the same username which would have been far too easy and boring). So before anyone thinks that I'm unscrupulously claiming modelling credit from someone else: I am not!

Onto the gist of this thread: Marines. As I had previously outlined in other threads, I don't tend to dig the whold over-the-top thing GeeDub has for a lot of the models and imagery in the 40k umiverse. Yes there are Demons and aliens and such but do they have to be so... Stupid? I mean a lot of Chaos stuff is just pants-on-head daft. Anyhoo, I like a certain amount of realism, it's what I enjoy about modelling so that's what you'll get- as close to being real as an army of futuristic super-humans can be! So lots of grimy-ness and battle-damage but not so muvh as to make them look beyond the realms of being able to function.

My army will use the rules of the Alpha Legion from the Horus Heresy series so in essence it will be a "Counts-As" army. My reason? The Alpha Legion are what I see an army of super soldiers to be. In fact, they're the closest of the Legions to operate like a real lofe military force, using misdirection and guerilla warfare (I believe the term used by the OSS was "Ungentlemanly Warfare", the Green Berets use "Unconventional Warfare"* ut enough of semantics). Plus they have a super sniper dude who just screams 'Rule of Cool'!

The look I have chosen is white. And orange. Yeh I know, too much Clone Trooper... But I like it. So there :P

@Darren, I will have a go at making a light box. Will be visiting the market on Saturday for some muslin cloth.

Next on my to-do list is get some paint on the Contemptor Dread and my counts-as Exodus. I could do with calling him something else really... Since I have a bit of a Greek theme going on I was thinking about Actaeon (a hunter from Greek mythology).

I added scuff marks and handling damage to the rifle, reflected highlights to the armour, modified the camouflage on the cloak into a pseudo 40k 'oakleaf' pattern and did some damage and oil effects on the Contemptor. While watching Bones season 8.

This whole thing is giving off a whole Stormptrooper vibe, with the white and the organge. Well Clone troopers would be more accurate. Looks great though. Personally I would have continued the racing stripe over the whole tank.

Thanks Meph. I did think about doing a full go-faster racing stripe but thought that would be too much orange! I'll try and get either the Contemptor or Actaeon finished this evening, which depends on how much time I have left tonight.

Did a bit of work on the base for the Dread last night. Just a simple concrete-esque type affair with plenty of earth pigments to give a dry and dusty feel to it.
