Hi, I have started a Ultramarines army and these are the first minis. I try to make a bit more individual than in the codex with inspiration from really old pics of marines :)

Nice, is that check pattern freehand?

ghazghull
01-18-2015, 04:38 AM
yes, everything is freehand as I believe this gives the models a nice feeling. I have never liked decals..

Then I'm even more impressed I thought they were decals other then the shoulder check!

In this project I am aiming on painting old models I have lying around. Therefore I have reclaimed these old rhinos. Glued and orkified these when this mk of the rhino where new.

Love your two Tactical squads, the 2nd ed flamer marine is a nice touch, I'm glad they've taken back those Rhinos, nice job in repairing them, and I really like your Command Squad, are the resin parts Forgeworld or another party like Kromlech?

Thanks! The resin parts are actually both forge world and kromlech.

Did a little work on my captain today :)

I agree with you regarding decals.
I do use them, but usually as a template to paint over.

Also, love those old school bolt pistols. Awesome work.

excellent work on the Command Squad, that banner really is amazing.

That banner is terrific! But more importantly, YOU PAINTED THE APOTHECARY RIGHT!

That's my biggest pet peeve these days, is the people who just paint the helmet and narcethium white and leave the rest in chapter colours. THE WHOLE APOTHECARY SHOULD BE WHITE! Except for the shoulder pad with the Chapter Icon. (I'm a slight cheat in that my Apothecary is wearing robes typical of the Dark Angels, but that's besides the point.)

Really digging your work, keep it up!

excellent work on that plastic captain, your freehand on the shoulder pads make him that little more special then the bog standard versions of him, and let's face it' he's a damn common miniature, I have one in my collection as well LOL
