Creative Assembly first signed a deal to partner with Games Workshop in 2012 to develop a new series of games based on the Warhammer fantasy universe.
"With this year being our 25th anniversary," Creative Assembly studio director Tim Heaton said at the time, "it seems fitting for us to embark on such a dream project with such a well-established partner.
"The incredibly rich and detailed Warhammer world is something we grew up with, and has left an indelible imprint on us as both designers and gamers. We'll be doing the Warhammer universe justice in a way that has never been attempted before. We're bringing those 25 years of experience and expertise in extremely high-scoring games to bear, delivering a Warhammer experience that videogamers will absolutely love."

The context of the drawings could be worrying:
"The future is interesting. As a games player I find myself playing games for longer than I ever used to. Games-as-a-service is already a reality. There are games I've been playing for literally years now (Eve Online is a great example) which continue to grow and evolve. What we play affects the way we think about what we want to do for the future, such as making games which people can play for longer periods, or looking at ways to pull more social aspects into the game. Multiplayer has never been Total War's strong point in the past, and that's something we're looking to radically change with Total War: ARENA. For most strategy games, multiplayer is almost all of the experience or,at the very least, a sizeable chunk of it. We're also experimenting with this in the mobile space, with Total War: KINGDOM, and taking the series to a fantasy setting with Total War: Warhammer."
Psychosplodge

no, does not want I definitely do not want more multiplayer. its bad enough already with the "multiplayer achievements"
Wolfshade
01-14-2015, 05:50 PM
Yup, no multiplayer, no mobile gaming, no game as a service .
Tyrendian
01-14-2015, 06:38 PM
well, I wouldn't complain if the multiplayer was better than the one in Rome2 at least (as in, actually working reliably...) but I definitely aggree it shouldn't be the main focus of the game

Don't know... ther has not been a single good Warhammer RTS.
Mark of Chaos, Dark Omen, Shadow of the Horned Rat... neither was good... quite the opposite. Converting a round based game into an RTS never worked out well
Psychosplodge
01-15-2015, 02:27 AM
Total war isn't RTS though, it's turn based for the most part. You can play the campaign without ever touching the real time element if you were so inclined.

The "world" part is turn based. The combat is RTS. If you cut out the combat you can also play civilisation with a warhammer skinmod.
Psychosplodge
01-15-2015, 03:04 AM
But you don't have to play the combat, and the combat is more tactical than strategy. You don't do any building or resource gathering or any of the RTS things, you just fight a single battle based on things from the turn based strategy game.
I've literally never heard anyone refer to totalwar as RTS before today.
Charon
01-15-2015, 03:11 AM
Combat is still not turn based. No matter what you want to call it.
And turn based games do not translate well in "not turn based games".
You don't do any building or resource gathering or any of the RTS things, you just fight a single battle based on things from the turn based strategy game.
Dark Omen, Shadow of the Horned Rat, Mark of Chaos did not have these things either. Still the were nowhere near "good".
I guess there is a reason why the better Warhammer strategy games were Turn based (Bloodbowl, Final Liberation, Chaos Gate).
Psychosplodge
01-15-2015, 03:18 AM
No combat isn't but it's still a turn based strategy game.
And total war is an existing franchise that knows what they're doing generally, warhammer total war should work if they get the balance right.
They're clearly taking an existing working formula and applying the warhammer world to it, rather than trying from scratch.
Final liberation and chaos gate were terrible as well.
Charon

And exactly that is what I would not like them to do.
Don't get me wrong... I love the Total War series. But that concept doesn't translate well on Warhammer.
A Total War with Warhammer toons does still make it a good Total War game but not necesscarily a good Warhammer game.
The opposite would be Space Marine which is a terrible Action shooter but a good Warhammer 40k game.
Psychosplodge
01-15-2015, 03:40 AM
It depends how well they do it?
There is every chance it will sell well and be terrible, but who knows?
But more importantly I wonder what TF2 hats will come with it?

Totes. I mean I want Bioware to do an RPG set in the WFB world, or Bethesda even, but that would be an RPG set in the WFB world. Warhammer Total War will be like Warhammer, but on your computer. Can't think of a better way of doing it.

Guess I'll be needing a gaming PC.
Owing to space issues, someone recommend me a decent gaming laptop please. I looked at Alienware, and after I stopped laughing, I realised there prices weren't a haxxorz prank.
Wolfshade
01-15-2015, 06:49 AM
Need to wait to see what the specs are.
But rather than a laptop, why not get a small form factor? Hide it behind the telly, connect via HDMI to it, wireless keyboard mouse xbox controller and boom jobs a good'un
Chronowraith
01-15-2015, 06:49 AM
Alienware hasn't been worth the price since they were bought out by Dell ages ago.
For laptops you can try CyberPC or ibuypower online or purchase an Asus from an electronics store (just look for a decent CPU, RAM and an independent GPU).

Trouble is, I no longer know what a decent CPU would be!

The SO bought a MSI gaming laptop from overclockers, and you pay a good 50% more for one than a similar specced desktop self build.
Take Wolfies idea and go the small form factor route.
Wolfshade
01-15-2015, 07:05 AM
The latest TW:A isn't terribly resource hungry, so could run fine on a non-gaming machine.
Though becareful, laptops are more expensive and if you include the word "gaming" it goes up even higher.
Psychosplodge
01-15-2015, 07:09 AM
And if you don't it probably doesn't have the right drivers, no dedicated graphics card and is even more hassle than its worth

my PC was four years old and didn't run anything on top spec when it was new. so I am expecting to see a bit of an improvement with the new one. still trying to actually get games downloaded so I can see though. XCOM 2 was downloading all evening on Wednesday and was virtually finished when I switched off and went to bed. Thursday evening when I got home, all gone, back to zero. so I turned my computer on this morning before work and set steam running downloading four games, hopefully they will be done when I get home.

I've had F4 do some randomly bad stuff. Other day none of the water textures loaded (don't have any mods for that) quit to desktop and reloaded and was fine. I've had some FPS issues as well. Same thing quit and reloaded and was good again.
@ Kirsten - same thing with my old computer. Was 4-5 years old and was having a hard time with running anything on medium. I've been wanting to get a new one and the old one got fried from power surge. There wasn't much to keep from it so the wife let me splurg on this one.
