Me and some friends want to supplement out 30k campaign with some Battlefleet Gothic. However we are unsure what vessels are appropriate for the time period. dose anyone know what types of ships world have been available to the legions and to the imperial army at the outbreak of there heresy.

Well, first off, nearly all of the Chaos fleet's assets are fine to use. Did a little quick research and here is what I've come up with. If you read through the rulebook and also the Armada addition, then you should find extra clues in which ships are suitable and which are not. Pretty much all Xenos races - minus Tau - would be fine as well.

OK Imperial Ships
Lunar-class Cruiser
Mars-class Battlecruiser (Was a Mechanicum-only ship until the later Gothic War)
Emperor-class Battleship
Retribution-class Battleship
[All Space Marine ships]
Dauntless-class Light Cruiser
Sword-class Frigate

And it is really not difficult to make your own ships. People do it all the time now, as long as your group allows it. Horus Lupercals flagship 'The Vengeful Spirit' is much larger than Calas Typhons ' The Terminus Est' which is a Despoiler Class Battleship.

Not to mention, in the book 'Battle for the Abyss' the Ultramarines and a few others try and hunt down the 'Furious Abyss' which was a massive ship specially designed by the Mechanicum once they threw in their lot with Horus. It was a Word Bearers ship with a Huge foreward lance type weapon that destroyed just about anything it hit, and it was extremely heavily armored as well.

Leave it to the WB to have a church in space with massive amounts of firepower!
