Im thinking about adding a vulture gunship to my AM/IG army, but Im not sure where the most current rules are located. I was thinking maybe the new anphilion project book but it was wondering if anybody knew for sure.

The newest rules that are most widely accepted (i.e. at tournies that allow FW models) is the newest "Imperial Armour Volume 1 - Second Edition Imperial Guard."

The Second Edition of Imperial Armour 3, the Taros Campaign, has more up-to-date rules. The Amphelion Project which is even newer apparently has a special Elysian variant that totes BS5 versus ground targets.

We use Imperial Armour Aeronautica which was put out in 2012, not sure when other two books the gentlemen above me are talking about came out, on a side note vulture with twin linked punisher gating cannons rocks

Hilariously enough, the Imperial Armours Second Edition didn't come out in numerical order; Three was before One. So the Taros Campaign has the less up-to-date rules.

IA1:2 was released in 2012, IA3:2 was released in 2013 according to Wikipedia?

Yeah, this is true to my knowledge. IA1 was just before Christmas 2012, and IA3 came out later the following year. IIRC, IA2 did come out after that though.

I've asked FW about this and they said "use whichever version of the rules you want." So yeah, ask whoever you're playing which would be better to use and see what they say.

I would note also that the IA:1-SEd Vulture also has the Strafing Run rule that allows it to fire at a higher BS at ground targets.

The Taros book also has this, as it released after the Tau Codex IIRC.

I think either-or will be fine, but I'm not sure of points cost differences. The Vulture in Taros costs about 155pts when packing the Punishers, and gets Strafing Run for some beautiful Anti-Horde/Light Vehicle fire.

As far as I can tell, the points costs and special rules are all identical from IA Aeronautica onwards, with the probably exception of the D-99 veteran Vulture that has a higher BS. I don't have any access to IA4 2nd Edition to check that last one though.
