Hi all,

I was having a look at the Baneblades for the IG the other day and my mind went back to the old 2nd Edition Wargear or Codex Imperialis( not sure if that is the exact title:confused:). Anyway in there somewhere there was a reference to a Super heavy Marine tank, the name escapes me at the mo and I don't have the books with me at this time, this said they wouldn't be much use as only the name was mentioned.

Anyone have an idea of what this tank might be or look like?

P.S. there was also that huge siege tank in one of the Dark Angel books, but that name never seemed to be the same one...?

Perhaps you're thinking of the Fellblade, the Baneblade-like super-heavy used by the space marine legions? No official 40K-scale rules as far as I know, but see Lords of Battle 2 (http://www.box.net/shared/diel1ercms), hosted here (http://theflylordsofterra.blogspot.com/2009/09/40k-mini-dex-logo-sheet-archive.html).

Nothing of the kind there. AFAIK*no chapter ever fielded superheavies (chapters, NOT legions)

Yeah, it was the Fellblade. But Space Marines don't have them anymore because Space Marines don't need them anymore.

They are no longer front line armies, but rapid strike / rapid response teams which are capable of quickly striking, devastating a target, and then leaving with the same speed. The days of the legions are, thankfully, long gone.

CSM Legions like Death Guard or Iron Warriors would be more likely to use a super heavy tank but like Melissia said big explody tanks arnt quite how SM roll. Thunderhawks and uber land raiders could work tho.

Right. Plus after the Heresy, the Imperium's military forces were split up to prevent another such a massive civil war. Space Marines are limited to roughly 1000 men each, and don't get super-heavies and the like, in order to prevent entire legions of SM's from devastating the Imperium if they go emo.

Similarly, IG and other forces are divide up so that if any one group of them rebels, they won't be able to fight an effective civil war on their own.

Uhm, need help recalling stuff here, the Fellblade is only in Black Library material right?

I reckon the Imperial Fists would properly rock the super-heavy look.

Horus Heresy material only. Supposedly I think the Imperial Fists and Ultramarines have one each protecting their homeworld or somesuch, but they never take it off that world. I don't really care that much for the fluff so I'm probably missing something or putting the wrong chapter in, but even if they DID have a fellblade they'd only use it defensively because moving that thing around is a pain in the ***.

I apologize for being such an nuisance in advance, but you mean Horus Heresy books by BL, nothing in the codices/rulebooks/white dwarf, right?

Duh, Madness. There are no superheavies in ANY codex, they're all apocalypse or imperial armour, and I don't think the Fellblade is in either of those, either.

I didn't mean as a unit, I meant in the narrative bits. I would have accepted also the specialist range (epic in this case).

Don't duh me. :(

I wouldn't know, I don't own any of the Spehss Muhreen codices, just the army list via army builder. The fluff is more important than the game when it comes to potential units, however.

I still have my Blood Angels with their Fellblade from time to time in Apoc games. I consider it some ancient relic they dig out when Dante comes to town. I call it the 'Sword of Sanguinius' and have it painted to be crewed by Honour Guard. Kind of like digging it out of storage on super-special missions; kind of like how I treat ANY special characters.

:)

You two should just date already. The tension has been building for long enough!

I'm not sure if the Fellblade shows up in any of the current Heresy-era novels. Unless it's that giant tank at the end of Fallen Angels?

In the "current" era, I wouldn't be surprised to find a Fellblade or two with the Imperial Fists, since their homeworld is technically Terra. And the smurfs get all the good toys, so probably one there, too.

Superheavies really aren't how Space Marines roll.

I cringe at the canonicity of the sauce.

I know tanks are cool, but tanks are the reason why we didn't flush the IG down the toilet, so I'd say let them be the only ones with big tanks.

In other words I hope the Fellblade was a powertrip of some Goto-esque BL author.

@Madness

I found this on Bolter & Chainsword forums that was asking "what is a Fellblade"

Bigred form BoLS reply with this:

The Fellblade is a concrete part of GW's 40k universe. There are several pics of them in the Horus Heresy art books. Fellblades were the precursors to the Baneblade that were provided to the Legions by the Mechanicus during the Great Crusade.

By the time of the 40th Millennia, they are all but lost in the mists of time. There are several arguments and counter arguments as to their disposition in the current 40k time frame and which Legion/Chapters would access to them, but for Heresy-era games they are legit.

Follow the link in my sig and download either the Age of Heresy campaign book, or the Lords of Battle apocalypse datasheet pack. The Fellblade is in both.

Have fun!

Hope this helps?
