I'm in the process of documenting my various armies as they stand at the moment, mostly because I can't remember what I have any more, and want to check! This is my Deathwatch army, the second largest army I own. By and large, every model is converted, with the exceptions of the 1st edition models and those rare ones that I like as they are. Mostly it's just kitbashing, but there's a few scratchbuilds here and there.

I do have more Deathwatch models than this, but I've only included the ones which have been fully painted; yes, I'm aware that lots needs basing!

Not got many close ups from this session. I have a few more pics here:

Sweet Emperor! That is one massive marine army. How did you decide to represent the various chapter badges?

I basically kept getting random eBay collections of marines that had been ruined by first timers painting them, and recycled them. Into the Dettol they went, off came the paint, and then on went various bits and pieces from every concievable marine kit. Because that's the joy of the Deathwatch - you can use any chapter you like, and unlike all the other people who seem to hate marines, I F***ING LOVE ALMOST EVERY SPACE MARINE KIT. Even some of the Chaos ones.

So, it wasn't so much a choice as just 'Oh, I've not got any Black Templars yet; what can I find going cheap on eBay. Oh, I've not got any Iron Hands, and this guy is selling a batch of unused bits cheap'. The only expensive part was acquiring the frankly ludicrous number of Deathwatch shoulder pads, but that's what bits sites are for, eh? :)

But yeah, it was mostly random chance what chapters ended up in it. If I think it looks cool, it's in there somewhere.

And yes, this did originally start as four character models for a 'Deathwatch' RPG. I may have gotten a little out of control...

Haha! I understand projects getting out of control!

This quote from LOTR can easily refer to gaming projects...

Still, I vote for chapter shoulder pads! Muahhahaha :D

Ah, and I love the Deathwatch RPG as well. played Dark Heresy the most, but DW got a good run as well.

I was mulling it over; having seen other people's Deathwatch models, I just decided against in the end - it just doesn't look unified enough across an entire army.

Basically I didn't want my army looking like a bunch of fruity pebbles. :D

And to address those people who say I have bland highlights, well:
1.) the models are highlighted; my kitchen just has terrible lighting so you can't quite see it and
2.) HAVE YOU ANY IDEA HOW LONG EDGE HIGHLIGHTING OF BLACK TAKES AND HOW MUCH SKILL IT REQUIRES?!! Seriously, I love me some Deathwatch but just like Dirty Harry, I know my limitations. :)

Care to explain how you did the ammo belt on your Pedro Kantor?

The shoulder pad things is quite important. And it ends up looking cool on the table top; I only have 40 infantry painted, but they do look good!

Next time someone *****es about your black shading give them a one word answer: PHYSICS.

GW's black shading (ugh) is neither representative of the scale, nor the physics of the way black reflects light.

It's a metal ammo feed cut from the old metal Techmarine Servitor Heavy Bolter and bent into shape. Took a long while and quite a lot of torque with a heavy blade to cut it free, but it was totally worth it. Now I think I'd just buy an ammo belt from Zinge Industries.

Beauty in the eye of the beholder. My lot do have chapter logos in white, but I really detest the chapter colour thing. It's just not unified enough and looks too garish. I know it means my army isn't in the 'official' colours, and that may break some people's brains, but it's my aesthetic choice and I'm pleased with it. :)
