View Full Version : Windfall & Identification Help

Occasionally you'll hear about some lucky so-and-so who experiences a 40K windfall... all sorts of models donated from someone leaving the game, etc. Always read about it, never had it happen to me.
Yesterday I guess my number came up.
Buddy of mine was divesting himself of all his GW products. Just wanted to give them to someone who would put the stock to good use. When he asked, of course I said yes. So I got this...
http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/1618/dscn5942.jpg
And this...
http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/7514/dscn5936.jpg
And these...
http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/5831/dscn5978.jpg
And the last is only a small sampling of Puppies and Necromunda. There are several cases I have not yet had an opportunity to dive into. Crazy.
As I am not a Space Wolves guy, and certainly not second edition informed (started playing in 2003), where I need assistance is with identification of these...
http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/5604/dscn5965s.jpg
One of them has some manner of cybernetic chicken foot, and the others have the oddest backpacks I have seen on marines. I have two others I'd like to know origins on, but that will have to occur below (four picture limit)...

And then there are these guys...
http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/1058/dscn5967.jpg
I think some of those might still be available, or fairly modern. But I definitely don't recall seeing the guy on the left previously.
Two of the oddest (apologies for picture quality, was trying to get it taken before batteries died)...
http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/9493/dscn5972g.jpg
And finally, exactly what the HECK are THESE?! Enslavers?
http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/6494/dscn5979.jpg
Any identification assistance would be appreciated. I still have several boxes and cases I have to dig through, which look to contain (conservatively) 200+ Dark Eldar metal figs, several Skiffs, many jetbikes, plus an unbuilt Dark Eldar Battleforce. Not shown is the Mk.1 Land Raider (already soaking in Simple Green) and a ton of other stuff.
Just because they're cool, I'll share these (Rogue Trader era, if I'm not mistaken)...

Lucky day.

The guy with the bird in the 4th pic is the old power-armoured Njal Stormcaller. The guy on his right is a generic Librarian (I think that because I use the same model as my Libby). To his right is Ragnar Blackmane. The other three are probaly old Wolf Guard.
The Terminator in the last pic is Logan Grimnar. To his right is Ulrik the Slayer. Again, I think the others are Wolf Guard.
That's all I know.

Pick up a space wolves codex. A new one just came out recently. That'll help you with your army.
Also... This site will help you identify all your models.

As other people have pointed out;
the guy with the bird is Njal Stormcaller, the guy to his right (in the back row) is Ragnar Blackmane, the termie is wrist-mounted storm bolter is the 'Great Wof' Logan Grimnar, the guy with the wolf-skull helm is Ulrik the Slayer, the guy with the single-bladed axe is actually the long-fang pack leader, and the rest are wolfguard.
Those odd bat things that you think might be enslavers are actually Necromunda ripper-jacks (which had cool 'suck your face off' rules).
The guy with the lasgun and cyber-arm with chainsword is a necromunda bounty-hunter (or he might be an underhive Scum).

The "Enslavers" are actually ripper jacks, Necromundan wild critters that could also be commanded by a beastmaster kind of rogue psyker, and the guy with the bionic arm is a bounty hunter hired gun (still Necromunda).

And then some.
If I had to guess, I'd say there's roughly 3500+ of Dark Eldar assembled with another 2500 not. Big models too. Skiffs, etc. Plus another box full of Necromunda and various bits.
Heck... I didn't even photograph all the Blood Bowl models.

Many thanks to those who "dropped names" for the puppies. Quite helpful.
I am yet undecided if I'll be going forward with Russ & Friends, but at least now I have the option. There's some work to be done if I go that route, and I'm not certain I can handle another side project at the moment.

I don't understand? Why would Aldramelech break into his house? ;)

I won't clutter the forums with more pictures, but upon further investigation I discovered a pristine set of unbuilt Cadian Kasrkin and a Codex: Assassins in almost mint condition. Also... several sealed Warmachine Khador and a "Reavers" (?) box set. Not a Warmachine guy. No idea what to do with those.
I had no idea the Assassins codex was less than a dozen pages. Interesting stuff. But here's the real reason for the post:
I found fifteen or more boxes of what appears to be a 40K collectible card game, spread across several expansions. Battle for Pandora Prime, Coronis Campaign, Invasion: Verdicon. Each box appears to contain cards specific to one faction (Imperial Guard, Chaos, Eldar, Ork, etc). Some are still shrink-wrapped. Definitely a GW product, with copyright of 2002. Had no idea these even existed.
Perused the rules and they seem... convoluted. Anyone have experience with this CCG? Worth spending time to learn?

Assassins 2nd or 3rd ed?
The CCG is meh, not too good not too bad, I had a couple of matches with the starter decks, it has been dropped HARD from any form of support, I'm sticking with MtG/VS/Decipher's Star Wars.

Assassins 2nd or 3rd ed?
Well... the cover art doesn't quite match what is detailed on Lexicanum as an example of 2nd edition (almost, the gold title border is grey on the one I own)...
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/File:CodexAssassins2ED.JPG
...but it appears 3rd edition had 24 pages while mine only has 12+covers. There's no evidence of any pages missing from this one.
Author is Gav Thorpe, with a listed copyright of 1999.
EDIT: actually, the cover is identical to http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/File:Codex_Assassins_FCover.jpg
Still only 12 pages though.

I guess in your situation, i'd first work out what i wanted to keep and what i didnt. (i'd keep the BFG and bloodbowl for sure, and probably the space wolves - a whole army there for free, can't complain with that)
get together the stuff you don't want, then offer them to your closest mates. if still no takers, bung these last few things on ebay and split the money with the guy who gave you them in the first place, or just give hi all the money, the least you can do for such a generous gift.

I feel about a green as :D but awesome gift from your mate.
You know there are games museums that may take some of that stuff off your hands, though you can retain ownership, or if you prefer, see if your LGS would want to display some of these classics.
Either of those options would be better than selling to some collector where they would remain in the dark, unseen.
You could keep the lot, never to be bored or wonder what your next project would be ever again.
