Hey guys, we’re here to share our brand new project with you. We’ve set up Pocket General to create and provide 6mm wargaming supplies such that you can play any tabletop wargame without the issue of space that plagues larger scale games.

The long story behind Pocket General is that we found ourselves with increasingly small amounts of time and space to play wargames after moving to university. On the few occasions we would meet up, coming up with a large amount of table or floor space was challenging. We came to the conclusion that a smaller or ‘pocket’ version of wargames would be the best solution, it was here we stumbled across the concept of ‘Pocket 40k’ ( these guys have done some great work worth checking out if you haven’t already). If we were making it for ourselves, why not allow everyone else to join in as well - particularly since we were sure that we were not the only ones to have run into this particular problem.

Pocket General does not set out to replace other wargames, as there is little that can compare to the satisfaction of a game with your beautifully painted tabletop force, but when this is not possible, or when you want to playtest a list as quickly and easily as possible, maybe just squeeze in a game against a friend where it would not have been possible before? - Pocket General provides the perfect solution. We feel that 6mm gaming provides an excellent way to get a friend into your favourite wargame, as there is a much smaller investment necessary to get involved with the hobby

So far, we have the prototype of the various accessories and packaging that Pocket General will comprise of. As you can see, the box is very compact and a lot more convenient than the conventional mass of components required for tabletop wargames. Inside, separate boxes house the magnetised army, gameboard, markers and terrain to ensure you have to hand everything you could need for a game. Check out the pictures below to get an idea of what we’re talking about, and stay tuned for more updates.

To make this project a reality we need funding, so if what you’ve read so far interests you check out our website, or our soon-to-be-launched Kickstarter campaign. We’re also available on Facebook (www.facebook.com/pocketgeneral), twitter (http://www.twitter.com/pocket_general) or via email ([email protected]) if you want to contact us outside of this forum. Even if this doesn’t interest you, we’d love to hear your feedback; be it positive, negative or if you just like to post replies please let us know what you think, we’d really appreciate it!

Models on the board, see more of this at the top of the post.

Don’t forget that these are the first prototypes we’ve made so they’re a little rough around the edges in places, but we will strive to improve our prototypes until we are satisfied with their quality. Stay tuned for more prototype pictures and general updates with the project.

First question springs to mind, How is this any different from Warhammer 40,000 Epic?

Though I like the idea of pocket war gaming, Surely a smaller scale game like Kill-Teams would be a better scenario?

Another thing that springs to mind for me is this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/151315739739?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=108&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108

Essentially Cluedo but in a micro key chain from, its basically a draw with a lid. the lid opening to reveal the cluedo board itself and the draw stores the pieces.

Hi there, thanks for taking an interest in Pocket General. Where Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40k Epic focuses entirely on large battles fought between huge armies represented by 6mm models and has its own set of rules - very different from the 28mm game. Pocket General is set up to allow you to play any tabletop game you wish, albeit on a smaller scale. For instance, if you did want to use it to play Warhammer 40,000 you could do so; using the same rules that you would for a normal game.

As for Kill-Teams being a better way to play, again if you wish to use Pocket General to play 6mm Kill-Teams you can do, it really is up to you what to do with the framework provided. The micro Cluedo is similar enough, taking the idea to even more of an extreme, but the complexity of tabletop wargaming entails making Pocket General both larger and inclusive of more pieces and gaming accessories.

Hope this answers all of your questions :).

Hey guys, here’s an exciting update for those of you following our progress – an in depth look at the prototype Terrain pieces. There are six individual pieces, making up a fairly dense ruined city on the board. Of course, as we progress with the project, more pieces will be added and a greater variety of terrain types included so that battlefields can be fashioned to look like crowded urban metropolises, thick cloying jungles and everything in between! One of the great things about such small pieces is that you can easily mix and match different types of terrain to your hearts content, meaning that no two battlefields have to look the same and games can be kept from becoming stale and predictable.

The prototype pieces are highly detailed, despite only standing at 3 – 5 cm in height, sporting windows, gothic archways and a good dosage of ‘wear and tear’. The terrain comes on several sprues and is very simple to assemble, magnetise and then paint however you like. The floors will all be layered with the same magnetic material as the board, so that miniatures can stand atop the buildings without fear of falling off (see below). For now, the prototypes are made from corrugated card but we will be experimenting with several more sturdy materials for the kickstarter so that we are satisfied the buildings have a suitable durability.

We hope you guys like what you see, there will be more updates coming soon to show off other parts of the prototype so that you can see them all in greater detail. For now, here are pictures of the individual assembled piece of terrain, enjoy! As always, feel free to contact us on Facebook or Twitter, or by emailing [email protected].
