Hey all!

I am currently stocking up up my display cabinet and ive just realised I dont have a single marine figure in there at all! Poor show for such a major model range and such a huge part of my hobby in the past.

So I ask you all, what is the most iconic space marine model in existence?! I feel like I need one for the cabinet. But which one?! I do understand its a very subjective thing though.

Rogue trader era, forgeworld, special character, limited edition, primarch, loyalist, traitor? Anything goes. I have a pretty extensive knowledge of the range but any pics of your choices would be appreciated...

So whats it gonna be? Help me choose!

Oh you funny funny man. :)

There are so many possible choices for the iconic marine it boggles the mind. An easy choice is the 25th Anniversary LE Crimson Fist based upon the original RT artwork. There is also the old sculpt of the Chapter master setting on a throne, the LE model based upon the 2nd Edition box art and on and on...

If I was going to limit my display to one thing I would likely do a Crimson Fists last stand diorama like this one. it's not "one" model but it does represent what is arguably the most iconic Marine artwork.

Obviously I didn't mean the mahooosive one outside GW HQ, what I meant was that the mk7 power armour marine is very iconic.

But yeah the special edition crimson fist, or the BA captain from 2nd ed box

Yes sir the Mk 7 is pretty iconic and that BA Cap is one cool character. When I think Space Marines I still instantly think of the last stand of the Crimson Fists but that's probably because I started with RT and the original beaky box that used the Crimson Fist cover art. On a side note how in the name of the Emperor do you post a pic like you did here? I can link into my IMGUR pics but I can't seem to get a pic to come up like you did with the BA Cap.

Both of those were the image of space marines for years. If you only want one marine have one of those.

Get one of the bolter guys from the 2nd edition box set.

Go big or go home... http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Modelling-Supplies/IMPERIAL-SPACE-MARINE.html

or if you just want GW not forge World, Marneus Calgar is always a good pic from the current model line or even warp dust user Drago(if by Space Marines you mean just Space Marines not just Codex: Space Marines)

I have the Iwo Jima (skullz?) in my display case. I can just turn it every now and then for a different chapter to be facing out.

Holy crap! Id forgotten that! Or rather didnt realise they still sold it.

Its a candidate for sure. Though the cabinet is already full of large items like WM Hyperion Colossal and soon Nagash and the Heresy Miniatures Dragon.

Liking the idea of a bog standard tactical marine. The one of the 2nd ed ones, especially as that was the era I started the hobby in.

What else you guys got up your sleeves?!

There is of course the Primarchs series from HH, which are pretty awesomesauce.

Or, the variants through the ages:

For me iconic is original RT era Mk VI, with boltguns, and spiked left shoulder pad.

Man, I still love me those old Jes Goodwin Terminators. They were the absolute epitome of bada** when I was twelve. The Librarian's Force Axe is still the coolest one ever sculpted, and I love the gothic sweep of the shoulder pads - the way they come to a point at the bottom, rather than a flat edge.

I don't know if there is a most iconic marine though. There are just too many 'classic' looks for them that the exercise seems so completely subjective as to be almost pointless - choose the one you like the most. It'll be the right one.

My personal choice would be any of the old Sternguard Vet models, the two power fist guys are awesome.

But if it's display case material it would have to be Forgeworld's praetorians for regular space marines, or the Garviel Loken and Abbadon Diorama.

Then of course there's Horus....

im with the necromancer on those 1st indominatus termies :)
i have tried to convert mine to be as close as possible...... banding on the PF is a lost cause however, but im gonna try again :)

for iconic, its mk VI all day every day, and early mk VII (metals before they went angular.... think plastic)

modern minis, the limited ed captain is a classic re-sculpt of a classic mini. old tigurius.... calgar.... the BA heroes, old DA captain.. and ultra TBH. ahriman is still amazing, lemartes is nice too (as a chaplain, he is one of the best looking).

im not a big fan of much of the 3rd-5th ed minis for marines.... the plastics robbed the character from the range :(

The Emperor's Champion, I reckon it is one of the most iconic looking marines.

This dude makes me think if Arnold the Govenator was in Power Armor, but I'd have to vote on Logan Grimmnar, his third ed. model was extremely cool and stood the test of time like the Daemonhunter metal Terminators.

How about Brother Artemis, from inquisitor? it's 54mm, so a nice piece to show. The only drawback is that is kind of hard to find

For me, its gonna have to be this guy;

http://www.entertainmentearth.com/images/AUTOIMAGES/SID8104lg.jpg

Whilst I dislike Ultras, they have been the pinup/vanilla for me for too long. Perhaps I really mean the it this model is a scaled up version of, but its perfect for me. Mk 7- including the helmet- thats important. The helmet also has one of those little gems that used to be common on metal armless marine bodies when I first started. The torso has the angel of death- winged skull. The bolter has an aquilla on it. The knee pad has the bullet hole that we all used to put into our marines when I started. Before weathering was the art it is today.

Dont get me wrong, there's other marine armour I think is cooler, but this is what I think of when someone says marine. This is my default, a mk 7 Ultrasmurf tactical marine.

I have a box of these which I actually found in a charity shop for £4! Are these the same size as current Terminators? I'm not a 40k player yet but am looking to get into it.

They're gonna be a little shorter by a few millimeters and to play as terminators theyll need 40mm bases instead of 20mm but I totally use a few of my 1989 terminators regularly I recommend those warmachine/hordes slotted 40mm bases they make unless you wanna cut their flash tags off their feet

That's not strictly true, you don't need to rebase.

You don't have to, but for terminators specifically I always do, sort of a courtesy to avoid any disagreements or fuzziness during deep striking Ive never gotten into it with anybody over it just woulda been a little smoother/less akward situation

No they are shorter and less bulky, but great none the less, I sooooo wanted these babies when I was at school, I got in through Space Crusade, so for me, this guy is the Iconic figure for me.

oh and £4? you are one jammy sod, I wish I could get a set at that price!

I've just got to settle for several Thunder/Lighting Claw termies from 1995, though I do have two 89's in my collection.
