Hi all

What is best table size for the tournament 6x4 or half sized 4x4 or 3x4?
I'd like to run tournament of that size and would like opinions from players with tournament experience ;)

4x6. But, I really like a 4x8 so there is extra room for casualties and reserves.

6x4 is pefectly fine if you have the room. There was a while when the standard GW tourneys were 6x4 @ 1850. you're only removing 350 pts so 6x4 is still a great size per table.

Smaller tables (4x4, 3x4) are better for 1000-500 pt games where you need to make the board smaller so that things will actually happen.

A 4x4 table is going to hurt mobile armies at 1500 points since they won't have enough space to exercise and take advantage of their mobility. On a 4x4 table foot-slogging hordes rule.

4x6 @ 2500 pts or less
4x8 @ 3000 pts +

IMO if you have more stuff than what you can fit on a 4x8 your game is to big. :p

Anything smaller than 4x6 (or 6x4) means Orks win. Players need lateral space to avoid assault. If you are going to use smaller tables here are a few ways to minimize the effect.

1) No Dawn of War. You can't let players be that close. Pushing back 24" instead of 18 is another way to offset it. Don't let anyone start to close.

2) No Night Fight. Shooting armies are already hurt, so don't add insult to injury unless everyone starts with everything in reserve.

3) Kill points in the 3rd mission only. It's a great tie breaker anyway, so this is good advice most of the time. On smaller tables it becomes critical or players will become discouraged early on by a loss.

4) More terrain. Put in more terrain that slows down movement but doesn't block like of site. Don't over do it, but 1 or 2 pieces would work. This will artificially increase the board space. We've made ragged terrain/stones by pulling apart old keyboards and just glueing the keys to a board and painting it gray.

5) Objectives need a "special" rule. Smaller tables mean cramming the objectives closer together. Just don't allow a unit to contest/control more than one objective. This stops people from stringing units on the 5th turn.

Except if the horde depolys first in DoW, they can deploy right on the halfway line, which means with a 24" seperation the other player couldn't even put a single unit on the board.

I can't remember where on the internet i found it,but i read an interview w/a games workshop developer/designer. In the article he stated that the game is designed to be fairest for all at 1500pts on a 4x6 table. I'll look around and see if I can find it and give you an address or link.

Hello, Welcome to the "internet". It is a collection of networks that alows people from around the world to share ideas and ask for advice. In case this isnt clear, people around the world play differently in other places. Seeing as he is posting from the Ukraine, It is safe to assume that his local group might do some things a little differently than, say, you blokes up in Chi-Town.

But thanks for not taking part in the discussion! You've proven one of the other aspects of this glorious Internet: Not all ideas, or opinions, are good ones and anonymity usually brings out more examples of that!

4x6 for anything above 1000 points.

But thanks for not taking part in the discussion!

There doesn't appear to be any discussion. 34 respondents have given a 100% polling - I have never seen that.
