This is going to be my blog of everything I paint that has something to do with the Horus heresy. I'm going to kick it off with a Thanatar Siege-Automata that I just finished :)

I think the barrel of the main cannon needs a little something. Maybe add the glowy effect there too?

I have to say they look pretty good, but....

It seems to me, you haven't used any shading inks on them to make the egdes of the armour and the other nooks and crannies stand out.

At least thats how it looks to me from your photos.

From the photo's they just seem... flat.

To me, it looks like they're zenith shaded rather than washed and highlighted. I like the effect a lot, personally.

I've heard this term a lot on these boards, but I have no idea what the heck that is?

Zenthal shading is an airbrush technique (pretty much *the* airbrush technique), used to apply a color gradient to the piece. Start with an undercoat of shadow, then spray a dark layer of your intended color, followed by a medium at an angle, followed by a light at a higher angle, and possibly a very light misting of white at the top depending on how "shiny" you want the piece to look. It's called "zenithal" because you aim from the top, or zenith, of the object, with the idea being that the object gains a natural set of highlights and shades by where the paint falls.

They're mostly Zenith'd, but unfortunately my lack of photography skill and a decent camera (using my phone at the moment) makes them look a bit flat :(

Thanks for the info DWest, I didn't have any understanding of the skills needed or of the technique itself, now I do, I can apreciate what TitanMinis has done now I know, as I'm certain I couldn't do that.

great model the only thing that lets it down a little for me is the size of the Siege weapon its got the right size bulk but length wise feels too small i dont maybe i am being nit picky.

This has probably been my favourite mini to paint lately, love the detail on this guy! Gave me the chance to try a couple of things I hadnt before as well :) Hope you guys liked him!
