Can I take a bike riding chapter master (very bulky), 7 Honor guard w/ dedicated Drop Pod (holds 10 models) and load them up and drop them onto some faces? I'm trying to find out where in the rules I can't place a bike in a pod. It may very well be hidden somewhere.

This seems a bit silly but it was an idea I had whilst Watching Hercules the Legendary Journeys*.

*Note* No correlation between the viewing of Kevin Sorbo and the idea of a bike in a pod. Although on an unrelated note, Kevin Sorbo invented the Olympics.

No you cannot. Bikes cannot go inside Drop Pods.

Is that owing to them being no long Infantry type but Bike type?

Yes. Once the guy takes a the Bike as Wargear he ceases to be Infantry and becomes inelligible to ride in the transport.

I thought as much. Would be cool for a drop pod to land a a captain launching his bike out of the drop pods...

Although, being thorough, I did look for any indication in the rules that taking a Bike as Wargear changed the Unit's type. I found nothing in the basic rules. This is a fairly typical Games Workshop vaguness. I think commonsense dictates taking a Bike makes you a Bike unit, however, there isn't a rule for it unless it appears in the individual Codex in regards to the Wargear selection option. Bikes (as Wargear) aren't don't even appear in the main book, only Bikes as a basic Unit Type. :D Given that, there is certainly enough wiggle room to create an issue if someone wanted their Independent Character, to whom a Bike has been applied, to go in the Drop Pod. I will go to the various Codex and see if I can find anything in the Wargear rules which says otherwise. In the "rules as written," there is likely a loophole here (although I don't much like it).

*In the CSM 6th Edition Codex, at least, the Bike Wargear specifically indicates it changes the Unit's type to Bike. I would hope each other Codex does the same.

In the Space Marine Codex it is specified that they change their unit type to bike as well.

I don't think I've ever seen the movement rules being repeated in a bike wargear entry in any Codex, so if someone is trying to finagle their way into saying that taking a bike wargear doesn't make their IC a bike unit, then just counter that they can only make a 6" movement because that's how Infantry move.

Edit: Also confirming that Eldar Jetbikes specifies a unit type change.

Good. It appears, to Games Workshop's credit, that the various Codex make that clear. This means my original answer remains correct, you cannot take an Independent Character with a Bike into a Drop Pod. :D

Or a Jump Pack or Thunderwolf, also.

Or a Jump Pack or Thunderwolf, also.

"Unlike most other unit type categories, ‘Jump’ is not a classification in and of itself. Instead, you’ll find it occurs before another category – commonly Infantry, sometimes Monstrous Creatures and perhaps, rarely, other things. Jump units therefore share two sets of rules, the Jump unit rules, and those of their base type."

<del>You CAN put Jump Infantry into transports.</del>

Edit: Spoke too soon. Transports entry specifically disallows Jump Infantry. I was thinking of the Storm Raven, which specifically allows them instead.

Wish we had the strike-through tag on here...
