After being bitten by the 40k bug by Dark Crusade and starting with a Necron battleforce, I switched over to Dark Angels recently when I split on DV with a buddy of mine. I've been finding time as of late to get a little sculpting and painting done so I decided I'd share it here!

Enjoy!

First off is Belial. I wasn't going to stand for his default post so a bit of greenstuff fixed his sword arm, and I put a couple GS candles on top, inspired/lifted from Raz's awesome Word Bearers army on Bolter and Chainsword. Not 100% sure if I want to have the banner on him or not at this point so it's still separate. I also want to sculpt a Watcher model on the base with him, but I haven't done much more than mash some bits of sprue together for something to build on.

The Librarian is from the Dark Vengeance set, and he's only underway at this point. I'm working on making some lightning effects on his base with bent wire and will be going over it with the airbrush when schedules permit.

The Marine sergeant is also from the DV set, and the first model I was actually pretty okay with! He still needs some detail work but I've let him stand by since my army doesn't have a single tac marine in it ;)

Finally, the Dreadnought was a bunch of effort spread over a couple weeks; I cut my greenstuff teeth sculpting the trailing robes and I'm pleased with the result, though next time I'll try to make it more uniformly thick. I still need to do details and am considering giving him some aftermarket purity seals, but I'm pretty satisfied thus far.

Any input is appreciated :)

Yeah, the GS stuff is nicely done. Good job.

The painting is a but crude here and there, but well done. There are a few cheap tricks you can do crank 'm up a notch though. The details can be easily outlined using a black wash. But best give the model a coat of satin varnish to help the flow. Then thin some black wash with some water (about 60/40) so it doesn't cover the flash surfaces so much and apply. you can do the same with some brown on the faces and such. When that's dry you can always carefully apply some more in the recesses here and there. This will really bring out the fine details.

for sure, none of the models I consider "done", but I wouldn't be kicking myself over taking them down the local shop at this point. None of their heads are complete as it stands :P

huh, that's weird. reups! again, none of these guys are done, especially the heads (the dread has a bit of kantor blue on his face) but they're the models I"m proud of so far

Like Meph said about the wash, except I'd go for some seraphim sepia instead of black on belial and the robes. For the faces use cadian fleshtone. I usually save black for guns and things like that. It might be the photos but your paint looks like it might be a little thick and could use some watering down.

Anyways keep up the good work.

Thanks fox, would you recommend a specific ratio of water to paint to use?

honestly i eyeball it.....lol. It's one of those things you have to practice until you just "know" it's right.

What i do is mix it on my pallet, then i brush a stroke or two and look at it, if it kind of beads like water, then it's usually too thin. You want the paint to flow and not dry out before it gets on the model, but it's really a practice thing. Try putting some paint down and then adding a drop or 2 and you'll see the difference pretty quick. If you want try mixing it in the flip up cap of the GW paints because you can always just close it and shake it back up, you know? The GW washes though I find a pretty good without adding water. Don't be afraid to fubar it all up because you can always clean the model and start over if you don't like it. I know I have done that plenty of times. lol.

Slight update!

Cut up some wire insulation for basing greebles on the Dreadnought and it turned out better than I had hoped! also, started taking a whack at some OSL effects on the dreadnought's plasma cannon today, I'm pleased so far but I'm gonna highlight it more.

I also chopped the DV plasma gunner's weapon arm into a plasma cannon for one of the terminators and the result is pretty sweet. once the GS is on it, it'll be a pretty seamless conversion I think
