Hey guys, need a little help here. I've been away from the game for a little while now, and upon wanting to come back to it I find that GW has slipped not one, but TWO new editions past me since I've been gone (played 5th in college, but had to set it aside in order to get my life in order, get a job, blah blah blah). So, having said that...what happened? I've been trying to get a handle on stuff through various articles, but most compare it to 6th, which I don't know anything about either. I bought the 7th Ed. rulebook the other day, and from what I can tell, vehicles live forever and psykers have way more dice to roll now. One of my main questions has to do with allies and the FOC. This wasn't a thing back when I played at all, so am I correct in assuming that now you can play pretty much whatever list you want? (Referring to Unbound) I hope tournaments at least restrict this to a certain degree. Any insight would be appreciated as I try to climb back into my old 40K pants!

It should be noted, I suppose, that I will be playing with Tau. In olden times, my main army was Blood Angels, but when I got out of the game I sold them all. I still have a fledgling Tau force that I held on to, however, so that will be the easiest, quickest way (read: cheapest) to get back into things.

With unbound you can play pretty much what you want indeed. Vehicles aren't invincible at all they are slightly less durable then in 5th.

Welcome to the new GW, where the rules don't matter and the army organization is made up

In all seriousness though.

This edition brought alot for all types of players.

Fluff players can now play exactly the lists they want.

Min-Maxer's can make absolutely devestating lists.

Its a win win situation for everyone as long as you dont try to put the two againgst each other. Make sure your opponent knows what type of list your bringing so that both players can play accordingly and you will have fun.

Thanks for the tips, everyone. I think I need to paint another fish, figure out how best to equip my battlesuits, and just get a few games in to really wrap my head around all the changes.
