Hmmm... looks kinda hard to make the sides seamless with each other. Also it looks like it is a rectangle, splitting the board into fours, instead of sixths like the other GW/FW boards. Someone could use maths to un perceptive the pic a bit.

Also why do the roads have girders in them? and the sidewalk is just vents... idk.

The rectangle look I imagine is due to the photo being stretched rather than the actual shape imho. Apart from teh road components, the rest looks more or less self contained on the board for placing buildings etc and attaching more tiles.

We sure this is plakky and not a Forgeworld job?

I don't get this. It looks like nothing more than a bunch of textured tiles glued together on a flat surface. Seems like something anyone with a few spare hours and some spare scale railroad kits could put together. Very uninspired.

FYI: Sanctus Reach is a sub-sector in which Grukk Face-Rippa's Red WAAAGH is currently attacking Imperial worlds. Alaric Prime is the planet specifically mentioned as currently under attack by Grukk's WAAAGH.

Saves me the arse of trying to find enough space and materials to produce my own, which for me is a bonus.

Remember, these aren't compulsory. If you have the skill, space and materials to knock up your own board, do it. It's cheaper. For anyone who lacks the previous three, or just can't be arsed, there's a Realm of Battle.

Cause that's how they make roads and sidewalks in year 40k duh. They drive cars that use magnets to hover and that requires metal roads. And vented sidewalks for the random wind gusts to discourage imperial women from wearing skirts. Everyone knows Space Marines hate women showing some leg almost as much as xenos and heresy.

I have to agree, I'm really not impressed with this example.

Maybe it'll have some buildings to go along, making those vents and all more understandable?

Why are we assuming that is sidewalk (we civilised folks call it a footpath or pavement FYI), I was thinking it was covered drain/sewer channels.

Hmm... I like that they're doing an urban Realm of Battle, but there's too much detail. I think they're trying too hard to Imperial-ify it. Just some streets and sidewalks with a smattering of broken concrete and maybe some embossed eagles would have been nice. But this is overkill.

Not sure if I like it or not. The original board was a great idea in principal, but in execution it was somewhat unsuccessful due to "wobbly model syndrome" (gimme a stepped hill any day) and the random charnel pits.

It's too early to say from a couple of scanned/re-photographed images how good it looks but i think the price is fairly reasonable.

And the new DV is the same price or a couple of quid extra (not much tbh) and does represent excellent value for money. I bought 2 when it first came out and sold the 2nd to a mate. Kept my copy for the rules etc. In the (very slow) process of painting up the DA contingent to flog on everyone's favourite online auction site...

So not impressed with the new ROB board, 3 copies each of 2 different tiles. seriously so underwhelming.

We'll all probably be better off with those mousepad type battle mats. I don't remember what they're called just now.

Tablescapes (once they go up for normal sales) and the FAT mats are better choices.

I like the look of it. Would also be ace cakes for Necromunda.

And no doubt there will be people itching to call me a fanboi. And you better believe I am. Have a look in the X-Wing board for further proof of my general enthusiasm for stuff I like.

New basing kit as well (http://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Imperialis-Basing-Kit)

Personally, I really don't like that board.
I've recently bought a 6' x 4' Laser Cut MDF Board from this eBayer, WargamesTournaments.
It cost £200 including delivery.
It comes with TWENTY-FOUR ruins that are on bases either 8" x 8" or 16" x 8".
The heights are 13.5" for half of them and 6" for the other half.

He also does a Necromunda Set of Buildings, although I haven't picked that up yet.

I cannot recommend this guy's work highly enough.

I've included three photos of mine which is going to be a Winter Themed Board.
The Wraithknight gives a good idea of the scale of the Ruins.
The Space Wolves, an idea of the Board size.
Then a close up of a flocked Ruin.

Please bear in mind these are WIP and I have only built four of the twenty-four Ruins so far.
I've also included a couple of grabs of the eBay thumbnails and a couple of Links to both products.

I think they are frikking brilliant.

I guess if your having more than 2, you'll have to cover up the somehow identical damaged areas, but I guess that's an easy fix.

Gotta say that I'm unimpressed with the new board, not so much with the look of it, it does look suitably 40k, but more the lack of variety. In a regular RoB board you get 6 tiles which are all different and there's an expansion pack of another 2 different tiles also. This one you get 3 each of two tile designs, no expansion pack (yet) and it's £25 more expensive too. I'll pass and grab one of the giant mouse mat style boards from Tablescapes.

That said I very much like the look of that urban basing kit, I can see me getting some of those for sure.

Basing kit looks kinda cool but that board... Looks like the just went "eh" and threw a bunch of gothic, "40k-esque" crap at a table to see what sticks. Doesn't look like an urban area so much as some jumbled sections of GW building kits glued on their side. Blech.

I just thought all the supremely talented folk at GW would be able to design something much better.

The original ones expansion is just two more of the flat panels. They're not new ones.

Ahh didn't know that. Still 6 different boards rather than 2 though and still £25 cheaper than this urban board.

GW have made a rather good video though of how to go about painting the new urban boards, which is definately worth a watch.

Man that is *nice*. Looks like an actual 40k Board, rather than just a board.

See when I move in with Mr Shaun, and therefore have a bigger place? Think I'll be getting me one of these.

Haven't seen it yet, so anyone know if they'll be offering the two panels to extend it to 8x4?

Also, see how the buildings sit on it? Bit of a shake up to terrain. No more can you easily turn a building during set up to offer maximum field of fire. Much more restricted on that board.

Video makes it look a lot nicer, we might get one for our club, a near indestructible urban board will be very useful.

I don't like it. Too cluttered. Also looks like more of a wall than a floor or the ground.
