Hey guys, so I've decided after quite some time to pay tribute to my favorite army of all time, the Death Korps of Krieg. I started off with a fairly small order awhile back and now I'm coming back to it with a vengence. I want to get this army in shape for battle missions (I think I'm dreaming but its at least a goal).
I'm still working on a competitive/thematic list. I'll be using the standard IG army list so I can bring this beast to tournies and the such. Well I'll stop typing now and just post some pictures up. Here are a few of the individual Kriegsmen as well as a whole squad.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y213/Festablo/Squad1-2.jpg

I'll be updating this log periodically. If I'm feeling frisky I'll post tutorials as well. Tonight I'll be assembling and green stuffing squads 2 and 3. Anywho I hope you enjoy, ttyl

They're looking great!

I'm also dreaming of a Krieg army one day, as an attached segment of my Cadian XIII Legion IG army.

I hope you post more pics soon! :)

really nice job. A whole army where 6 point models are painted to such a high standard- ambitious and impressive.

Cool. You got any tips on using an airbrush?

Love the colours on these. Reminds me of the 80s/90s historical painting style - clear and detailed but not overdone. Live the dream!

Thor - I'm planning the same thing. Have a pair of FW macharrius superheavies that I've got to get built and a bane blade to finish painting. Space marines get in the way...

I love the way this army looks. If I could afford to collect any army in the game it would be these guys as the entire model range is incredible (some of FW's best stuff IMHO). I love the style of the shading, how it is subtle and very smooth (I am sure the airbrush helps that too :) ). The weathering is also very well done. Great job!

Just a few. The biggest thing is make sure you thin your paints. THIN THIN THIN. The thinner the better. You will get a feel for how thin you like working with your paints. But once thats done you just spray away until you have a desired shading. Then I pull out the brushes and pick out all the details through a series of foundation paints and washes. The grime is done with an airbrush too. I'm in the middle of writing up my army list, hoping Ill have it done later this weekend and posted so I can start chipping away at it on this blog.

Thanks for the tips! I own an airbrush and a compressor, but never quite got around to test it... I've been spraying with other tools, but kinda' always feared the airbrush... I'll definitely try it out now!

Can't wait to see more pics of your Death Korps.

Small update guys, I got a few conversions I'm working on and I'd like to post them.

First up my Watchmaster with CCW/PW conversion.

I started with a typical DKOK watchmen who is armed with a lasgun. Now as IG sargs cant be equiped with lasguns anymore I had to come up with a simple conversion. I used the cadian las pistol arm from the infantry weapon sprue and the power sword from their command squad sprue. I started by shaving off the shoulder pad from the las pistol arm and super gluing it on. I then cut the power sword from the command sprue and trimmed the hand guard off and pinned it on to the cadian flamer hand. The conversion is finished by using GS to create a cuff on the laspistol hand and a metal glove backing for both hands. You can see on my initial watchmaster the finished product but with a chainsword. Here is the WIP picture of the normal CCW/PW watchmaster.

I knew I would need a bunch of meltaguns for this army. Seeing as none of the basic DKOK infantry squads come with them (yet its their preferred weapon? strange) I would have to convert my own. Now I could purchase them off forgeworld, but the cheapest way is over 30$ and you get two from the conversion at best.

I started by purchasing the meltagun bitz pack of GW's web sight. I shaved these down on the back and took the marine hand off. Ironically these 2nd edition meltaguns are the perfect scale for DKOK. A simple weapon swap later and we had a Kriegsmen armed with a meltagun that looks pretty dang good (and was pretty dang cheap). I have 4 more meltaguns here that I will convert up over the next few days. I think I'm going to go back and convert the other GL infantryman with one too. Here is the result.

Thats it for now guys. Hoping to start painting these guys later this week. Keep an eye out for updates! Seeya!

Nice Death Korps, they look very gritty and real. Also didn't think using standard GW bitz on Death Korps would look this good.

I wanted to post a small update today. I'm really happy with the way my Krieg heavy flamer conversion came out so I wanted to post it. I just finished the GS work on him. I had to add his cuffs, the armor plates on the back of his hands and his left shoulder pad. Anywho enjoy

Few pics of my Imperial Navy Valkyrie attached to my DKOK army. I attached the heavy bolters to the wings. I figured the interior would be kept air tight for the crew. Especially if they were supporting a DKOK army in a hazardous environment (most likely).

I'm not trying to bump the thread or bring one back from the dead. I'm really interested in seeing how this project progresses. Can you update us on your DKOK. I would love to know what colors you used for your infantrymen since I want to replicate the look. It's very french WW I blue like.

Sorry for the delay guys. I've been writing articles for Bols and as such have had a bit less time to work on my DKOK. Alas I have not forgotten them however! Here is a shot of the finished Veteran squad. Veteran Squad 2 is on the way as well, its build and half way painted. If you want to see more pics I started a blog on the BOLS Elite called First Rank, Second Rank (www.firstranksecondrank.blogspot.com) I'm also working on getting a new web hosting service for pictures. Photobucket is removing pixels alot when I upload... anyway here's some shots of Vet Squad 1.

Im waiting on some Forgeworld weathering powders and decals to delve into my vehicles with. I current have a converted Demolisher and of course the Valkyrie awaiting treatment! If you want to see the Army List I'm working off of I've also posted that on my blog, anyway cheers!

I'm always put off something like a DKoK army as I doubt my painting skills could do the models justice. You don't have that problem, these are gorgeous, really nice job.

Its Vallejo Model Air U.S. Grey (Or codex grey in GW colors). I wrote a detailed tutorial that will be up on the front page within the next few days so keep your eyes peeled!

Hey guys, I wanted to post alittle teaser of my Demolisher. It's coming along albeit slowly. The oil blending technique takes forever, but the results are well worth it. Anyway here's a little taste! Expect a Master Class article on it soon enough!

Fantastic Death Korp, are you going to do another flyer with Punisher cannons?

Col_Festus
02-24-2010, 10:26 AM
Probably not. I'm building this army around C:IG just using DKOK to do it. I have had a few ideas to get some of their signature units in tho. For example I was thinking of ordering a thudd gun and mounting it on a heavy weapon base with 2 crew, and then have two more heavy weapon bases with just crew on them and have it "count as" a unit of mortars.

i love looking at your death korps, if ever i do a guard army, itd be these guys! and the fact that you airbrush them is even more amazing to me. i wish i could use one lol, especially as i need some on a SM bike ive converted for my sisters of battle(i know that there is no entry for bikes in the dex, but hey), on the fenders and tank. ill have to hunt down someone who can do it for me i think lol. that or find a way to get an airbrushed effect with a normal brush.
