Here's a puzzler for all you maths types. Based on FFG's scale, how big would a model of the Death Star be?

Well going by the measurement of 160km for Death Star I, I think the model would be 500ft? Approximately 3000 Y-wings laid nose to tail. Maths is not my strong point though.

Yup and the Death Star II is 5-6 time larger again.:rolleyes:

it was bigger? never knew that

Yep I=160km II=900km
Or to use less widely used smaller measurements:
I=120km II=160km
Sadly most sources quote the first set. which is just crazy in my opinion.

Doesnt seem to wierd to me, was meant to be the size of a small moon and our moon is 1737.1 km in radius (so twice that in diameter)

If you're hitting that scale you're smacking into all sorts of joyous things like Roche limits and localised gravity and other 'hang on, how do we stop this self destructing' physical laws. On the other hand, this is a setting that canonically has antigrav, black hole power and plasma blades contained only at one end. The whole thing is too crazy for me to worry about things like physics.

I was thinking crazy more in terms of the variation between the two sets and that no one can agree, but yeah apparently there are some engineering/phsyicsy reasons for it being kind of cray cray as well.:p

500 ft hey? I guess we can't expect a model any time soon then. :D Thanks EG.

Maths is goodly. 160km equals 524,934 feet. At 1/270 scale thats 1944.2 feet. A bit over a third of a mile.
So we need to set our ships up next to an NHRA dragstrip (hoping the 300MPH cars don't blow our tiny toys all over th countryside).
