Ha' Zah!
Dwaves are my favorate fanatsy army - and even though I'm considering selling some of my fantasy stuff I won't be letting go of my dawi! That are fun to paint and its one of the few armies that I enjoy the fluff in as well! I have about 6000 points worth (with about 4000 painted).
On your models: one of the best units right now in hammerers. A lord leading a group of hammerers is a good courner stone in a dwarf army. I would suggest looking for around 20 of those lads. The only unit I don't have is ironbreakers - who are kind of a mixed blessing atm. Their armour can be great, but the increasing about of 'no armour' save in the game can really kick you.
That aside. Good luck painting, I'll be sure to follow along.

nice one! my dwarves are my only painted fantasy army(the lizards and gobbos can wait dammit). i loved painting the gyrocopter, mines in WW1 british air-force colors(cant remember the actual name of it then, before it was the RAF). pain to keep together, but fun none the less! and the engineer models are so characterful, its awsome! have you settled a scheme yet?

You can convert Hammerers out of Warrior sprues with a little time and kitbashing ... might be cheaper.

yeah, havent worked on the stunties in a while. i was spaying some varnish on the las unit to finish my army, and the spray misted, and ended up whiting out the figs, was disheartened after that, and started my sisters. i do the odd one here and there for display, but thats about it nowadays

These are awesome (though I expected nothing less with your talent).
I must admit I am extremely disappointed, as I was hoping for some decent Dwarf Thong pictures.
Obviously, the thread failed to deliver.

gosh you're making this hard for me!
I really want to finish my IG then move into my fantasy Orcs, but after seeing this I really want to repaint my dawi!
Looking good.
Are you mixing a blue into the beard highlights?
rbryce
03-03-2010, 11:33 AM
shocking! extreme highlighting i actually like! love the blue sleeves, i tried to take some pics of mine at the weekend, as i borrowed a digicam, but living in a victorian cottage just kills light. your mettalics are as dark as my miners! as for a lord on oathstone, i got the great weapon thane(the one resting on his axe and holding his helmet) and carved light stone from the garden and used the crushed plastig bag trick with mithril siler for a marbled look

You have NO IDEA what even happened that caused him to leave.
Someone rage quitting over an issue in which I HAD NO PART OF has nothing to do with me.
I really love this forum, and it's posters (yes, all of them), more than you'll know. You probably are not aware of that, but it saddens me to see people leave over petty issues. :(
Fact.

Yup, I second that. The general contribution Aldramelech made to these forums made them a more interesting and better place to be.
I especially liked the way he giggled when you poked his belly button...Oh wait that is the pillsbury doughboy, oops. Come back Aldra! Go Liverpool! and now I go back to my little hole in the 40k forum.
P.S.- If I ventured into Fantasy Land to tell you to come back that is like using "phoenix down" its like automatic.

I love the old school bolt-thrower, that really takes me back.
Did you add in a bowstring? Or is it a stardard part of the model.
It seems very thin (and realistic; not chunky, like the bowstring of the ballista style one).

I do hate the new Arty models, cant stand them. I went out of my way to find the older models I love (at a reasonable price), it took several months Ebaying. The Old school BF has indeed had a string added and also I replaced the wheels, if you remember it comes with little tiny wheels that look silly. So I went out to find the old style cannon wheels for it, more intense Ebaying!
I did consider cutting off the cord off the Ballista style one, but time was against me as the club 1500pt league is due to start. Maybe later.....

the only GW product i bought and wished i didnt... the new stylie dwarf bolt thrower. It was warped beyond belief before i got it out the box, then the guy at the store tried to straighten it out for me unsuccessfully. now its an unpainted paperweight!

Lol, I made the same mistake when I read it.
But damn, just damn... those shields, especially, are just AWESOME.
Aldramelech
07-06-2010, 10:34 AM
Thank you Mel.
The Shields are quite simple to do. They start black. Heavy dry brush Boltgun Metal. Heavy Dry brush with Vallejo Brassy Brass. Light dry brush shining Gold. Black wash Bahab Black. Pick out detail with the gold again.

07-13-2010, 11:21 AM
you like grimy miners too! as they should be after a long days drilling, drinking and sharing grudges! whats your plan with the 'copter? mine has a creamy/canvassy bottom and a green top(influenced by WW2 on that part) with all levers and metal partts on the body/tail section in a nice bright warning red, as i figure any engineer worth his salt lending such rare, delicate and (very) expensive machinery to (relatively) untrained apprentices would. have you built it yet? its a pain in the rear to keep in one piece!
Aldramelech
07-13-2010, 11:27 AM
Its about half done and should be done by weekend. Its got the same colour scheme as a BF109 in 1940.
Edit: The 109 scheme doesn't work, Red Baron time!!!!!!!

It's beautiful, Mr. Aldramech. Never had the pleasure of seeing what all the hub-bub was about when you left, as I never saw your work or your words, but quite excellent, I can see now. It's a pleasure having you back, I reckon.

looks like im gonna be sending you some miners to paint aldra lol. Top quality as usual, i actually started a repaint of mine last night as mine were among the first models i painted lol. shame your nearly done though, just building to a list? or just a general collection?
Aldramelech
07-23-2010, 07:21 AM
Oh no! No more bloody candles! lol
Most games at my club are 1500pt. So I wanted to be able to field that but have options as well. If I fielded them all it'll be alot more then 1500 obviously, proberbly 2-2500.
So Ive got lots of characters including Alrik and Thorik with anvil, more then I'll ever need.
20 Hammerers
20 Warriors
20 Warriors (Grt Weap)
20 Longbeards
10 Xbow
10 Xbow
10 Thunderers
10 Thunderers
20 Rangers (These are going to be modeled so that all or any options can be used)
15 Miners
Cannon
2x Bolt Thrower
Organ gun
Girocopter
I have no plans to buy anymore at the moment. But if I see a Grudge Thrower on ebay (old style) for the right price I might add that. Ive never liked or had a flame cannon, so wont bother with that. Ironbreakers? dont know, again if the price is right, maybe.
Orminah
07-23-2010, 01:58 PM
Good luck with that.
Aldramelech
07-28-2010, 10:21 AM
So here are the last of the crossbows. One unit to go!
http://i749.photobucket.com/albums/xx135/andyblackmore/100_0689.jpg
Rangers next
Aldramelech
08-11-2010, 10:39 AM
Here are the Rangers:

http://i749.photobucket.com/albums/xx135/andyblackmore/100_0712.jpg
As you can see I saved all the cloaked bodies for these guys and used a different color scheme. They are armed with Great Weapons, Throwing Axes and sheilds. To mix it up a bit Ive used some pistols as counts as Throwing axes.
Aldramelech
08-11-2010, 10:43 AM
So here we are, all finished! Not bad for 6 months work.............
http://i749.photobucket.com/albums/xx135/andyblackmore/100_0714.jpg
No you should never say never and there might be additions in the future, but that is all for the time being.
These have seen no action at all so far, so I might tag on a battle report or two:)
Hope you enjoyed it.
