Hi all,
recently I've started playing against the new guard codex, over all not too bad to be honest,
however one game the chap had a heavy weapons squad in a chimera and was stationary and blasting away with 3 las cannons,
When I've looked at the guard codex myself it states that 5 models can fire from the chimera and how its worded it sounds like it should be the lasguns, but can you shoot ANY weapon from the chimera or just the hull mounted lasguns?
Its not covered off by the FAQ,
what do you think?

I'm an old hat Imperial guard player, and as far as i'm concerned it states that 5 weapons may fire from the hatch. so yes heavy weapons may be fired from the top hatch, similarly grenade launchers and melts guns etc. If it was lasguns only it would allow 6 to fire to fit with the model.
In fact due to this new ruling, chimeras look cooler with "gun hatches" where the lasguns normally are, to allow the passengers to stick any gun out of the hull.

The troops inside a Chimera can fire any weapon that they have, just the same as those in a Rhino. Restricted as normal for vehicle movement, if it's not moving then heavy weapons can be fired without a problem.

Oh, I like that idea, lascannons in a chimera, I'll be using that.
OK, on fire points, the codex says top hatch which I assume refers to the back large hatch and not the cupola. So, if you're firing from the hot hatch, can you fire forward or does the turret block los?

Theoretically, yes, but if ANY part of the target has LOS to ANY part of the hatch, he's in the clear.

The wording which has you mixed up (it refers to passengers manning the lasgun ports on the sides) is merely fluff. What follows for gameplay purposes is that any model may fire any gun and measure from the hatch on the top of the Chimera.

Does it count as open topped if you do that?
No, it does not.
I use the Chimera bunkers for HW teams fairly often, but that has to do with my love for Al'Rahem and his outflanking basterds.
I have seen it used more with veteran plasma squads

Old rule that they've gotten rid of in the new codices. I think dedicated transports in DHs and maybe some of the other old codices are still subject to it, unless they've been errata'd.

Yeah, I usually use Forgeworld Rhino rules if I'm playing Sisters or IST's, so I've never had to deal with it.

Chimera has one fire point, and 5 models riding inside may fire their weapons, regardless of what weapon it is.

Hmmm thats true about any weapon...but what about the Flamer or Heavy Flamer...?
It says...on page 29.
"Instead of rolling to hit, simply place the template so that its narrow end is touching the base of the model firing it & the rest of the template covers as many models as possible in the target unit without touching any friendly models."
so does that mean you can't fire a Flamer out of a Chimera...?
because you are firing from the hatch you would hit the Chimera & you could damage it...

I think most people make an exception for the hull of a vehicle from which a template weapon is being fired. Otherwise, if you think about it, you couldn't fire Immolator flamers or Razorback flamers, which seems pretty silly.

You could fire them over the Side I do belive? The immolators and Razor Backs that is. I like to keep people from firing Flammers out of transports, unless its oppen topped. Firing a Flamethrower from the back of a moving vehicle is probably NOT THE SAFEST Idea. Also if you do fire the flammer the template touches a fire point so everyone inside take a D6 hit! But since you CANT do that (hit your own models that is) you cant Fire the weapon! Its a bit of a dick move but hey.....YOUR the one bunkering up in a Chimera! Also YES the Turret blocks LOS

This is covered by the IG FAQ (actually might be in the main rulebook now that I think about it).

This some what works for Rhinos as well, they can have two models fire from their top hatch, not quite five but hey we can't all have our cake and eat it. Personally I think the Chimera is the best Imperial DT going bar none and am a bit disappointed I can't use them anymore. As for shooting a flamer off an Immolator or Razorback (they can get flamers?), just leave the Immo alone it's a waste of points as is.
