PUNTASTIC!

Right, silliness out of the way....

Forgeworld's Horus Heresy books have finally, after a fashion, given us what many have wanted for a long old time. A stand alone, fieldable, non-proxy requiring Adeptus Mechanicus army list, and some very lovely models to go along with it.

But, being Heresy, rather than standard 40k, there is a question over whether fielding such a force might grant a player some edge or advantage over modern day contemporaries. This mostly stems from the differences between Legion and Chapter armies. Although Chapters tend to have snackier toys, Legions get some serious perks. Like units of up to 20 Tactical Marines rapid firing in your face, twice in a single turn. That hurts, and hurts a lot!

However, Adeptus Mechanicus units? Going on the one book I currently have, Betrayal....not so much. Only a handful of units in said book, but nothing I would consider truly hideous for an equally pointed army from the modern game.

So over to you. Would you be up for playing against an Adeptus Mechanicus list from the Heresy with your regular 40k army?

We have a guy at the club with a 30k mech army.

It's more fun to play against than a white scars gravition gun bike squad army but not by much.

They are so over powered, in my opinion, relative to a 40k army. It doesn't help that this guy is a bit of a douche.

I would definitely play you :) but they are tough muddas!

Before deciding anything like this, one needs to consider the rule of cool.

Now, are the Adeptus Mechanicus cool? Yes.

Simples.

well, it's a done deal if you ask me, i love the ad mech, and i'm hoping that it eventually finds its way into 40k as well. i plan on playing it, and i think my bros at the store will let me- in most cases.

if not, say hello to my counts as- what? tau, crons, eldar?

i plan on fielding 15 castellax as the bulk of the army.

i can see how 30k SM vs 40K SM would be oout of balance, but not really any other race, as they all have their limitations built in.

who can cite examples of how 30K is imbalanced to 40K?

I can. Here you go:

That's disgusting.

This is a good thread question. I do want to start by saying that the fifteen castellax would be roughly 180250pts...just for that. Ideally this game we play would be a balanced game with checks a balances and every model would be balanced pointwise, but let us be honest...it is soooooo not. I have a large force of mechanicum based on book three of the Horus heresy by forge world. I have been playing with my local group and we have found that while they are tough as hell, they are very expensive and not invulnerable. Grey Knights can auto kill them easily in melee. Also the knight titans that are seeing so much table time can potentially liquefy a full squad of five castellax in one melee round. So my weigh in is that they are fun, powerful but definitely not unbeatable.
