Last night was the weekly gaming night and I ran into a particular situation that seemed rather confusing. I was facing an Ork player who was rolling with 2 Big Meks, 2 Mobs of 30 Boys each, 9 Killa Kans, 6 Defkoptas and 1 Deff Dread.

If I am not mistaken, you are limited to only 3 units of Heavy Support for the Force Organization Chart. Am I wrong in thinking he took an extra Heavy or is the Deff Dread an Elites choice?

(Obviously, I know very little about the newer Orks Codex...the last time I played against them was in 4th Edition)

The Big Mek lets him take the deff dread as troops so the list is legal.

Thanks for the clarification.

I play a Bad Moon army (badly) using the Big Mek = Deff Dread as a troops choice option. Great fun but still lose to my brothers Black Templars, mainly because I can never reach the objectives in time to benefit!

Vehicles can't claim objectives, even if they are troops (rulebook pg 90).

Still useful for something like Planetstrike if you don't want to run a bunch of Boyz to fill the FOC up.

Yeah, gotthammer is right. the big mek's rule merely allows you to purchase a deff dread as a troops choice, but it still does not count as scoring.
