A few questions about thunderwolf mounts.

The first is, if an iron priest, s5, gets a mount, +s1, he is now s6 and therefore attacks at s12? because he uses his techno arm thingy (counts as thunderhammer, strength times two).
What t6 stuff can he now instant kill?
Can he choose to attack with a ccw at s6 and at regular initiative?

The second is, add a mount, +t1, to a wolflord,t5, he's now t6. What weapons/monstrous creatures/ xenos creations out there could instant kill said model? And considering this, how usefull is saga of the bear?

Cheers for any help/discussion.

I'm mostly a converter/painter but I'm catching up with understanding the rules. My blind spot is other armies equipment/units/rules. I just have the BRB and the SW codex.
My friend has most things but loves his necrons. I've played against his chaos marines.
Local meta quite varied.

I believe a Model's Strength Characteristic will always max-out at 10. This is why an Ork Warboss is Strength 10 and not 11 when charging with a Power Klaw. The backpack arm should offer a Power Fist and not a Thunderhammer for the Iron Priest to attack with.

Also, i think your wrong about the basic stats of the Iron Priest and Wolf Lord, They should both be Strength 4 and Toughness 4, giving them a Thunderwolf Mount would increase these to 5. Which, would allow weapons like a Thunderhammer or Power Fist to grant Strength 10 in Close Combat.

Also, I believe there's something about always doing the multiplication before the adding.

So you would multiply from the power fist first, then add the +1...but still top out at 10, I think. Don't have any books at hand, so YMMV.

Cheers, I wondered if it would max out at ten.
I know where I went wrong with the stats. Was using a program to list build and didn't realise it factored in the bonuses when it gave me the rundown of unit stats.

Anyone know if I can choose how the iron priest attacks? That would be pretty versatile.

I believe the +1 Str from thunder wolf cavalry is a permanent adjustment to statline, therefore it is S5*2, not S4*2+1.

The Space Wolves FAQ does indeed specify that it changes the base statline, so S5 x 2 is correct.

Yes, you can. Any model may choose to attack with any Melee weapon it has. So for instance, an iron priest riding a thunderwolf and armed with a bolt pistol, thunder hammer, and servo arm could choose to attack with his bolt pistol (S5 AP- Melee Rending), his thunder hammer (S10 AP2 Melee Unwieldy Concussive, with an extra Attack from having two Specialist Weapons), or his servo arm (S10 AP1 Melee Unwieldy, with an extra Attack from having two Specialist Weapons). Each assault phase, the iron priest could choose which of his three Melee weapons he is going to use.

EDIT: Okay, technically, he could also choose to attack with his krak grenades, if fighting a vehicle or Monstrous Creature, though most of the time that would be pretty silly.

Cheers that's really helpful. Didn't put two and two together about the two specialist weapons. Bonus attack, woo!
