Hi,
I've searched on this forum, and can find no relevant thread.

From what I understand of the sharpshot rule, all it gives Illic is precision shot.
Which I thought he got anyway for being an independent character. His rifle also has sniper, which again I thought grants precision shot.
So why does Illic Nightspear have sharpshot, and why does he give it to other rangers, when their long rifles also have sniper?
I must be missing the point, so can someone please point it out to me?

Thank you,
Shane

Sharpshot makes ALL his shooting attacks precise shots.
Sniper grants grants the ability to possibly make a precision shot (rolling a 6 on hit) - same as independent charakter.

another great GW rule.

fine every shot is a precision sniper shot; but then to get the distort effect - he needs a 6 ! ; since in most games he will be lucky to get 3 or 4 shots that is a very points price random effect; but equally EVERY shot he fires although very likely to HIT [2:with re-rolls] is only a 50/50 conversion exactly the same as a KROOT ffs; what about a re-roll on that as part of his 'character abilities'.

a simple but effective rule change to allow Illic to move and fire at full BS, or mb to fire in both player turns would make him an interesting unit?

AND, you can Look Out Sir -that hit...heīs NO Assassin you know...:)...thatīs annoying...if one has survived alone years with a special Sniper rifle, he gots to be worst shot than the Assassin...

I think being able to assign all the shots of the unit, that as you say are very likely to hit, where you want them, is very useful, pick out Heavy weapons (marines with Flakk missles are a great target) or the Special weapons and they can't even use Look Out Sir!, Illic is great as it is

While you got the intended use right, he is not "great". Way to low kill potential on an extremely heavy priced unit.
To kill an Marine with Missiles you need a 2+ (reroll) and then a 4+ to wound. To break even pointwise you will have to kill around 5 of these Marines, while in reality you will kill around 1 every 2 rounds (without cover).

The reason why you consider Illic is his ability to get some units a better infiltrate and very good cover saves.

yep. illic is the king of infiltration. eldar snipers of any description are just way too points heavy.

i like to use him to get 'shrouded' for maxed out Reapers ... split fire can be useful then as well. ;)

The game isn't about "breaking even points wise" though and thats a silly way of looking at tactics. If he neutalises a threat to another unit that is able to win the game, then hes good, for example, sniping out the multimelta that would otherwise have slagged the wave serpent about the drop off some Dire Avengers on an objective.

if you have actually ever managed to hit anything with illic then fairplay

It's a nice model, though...

Which is about the same, you need to break even in points one way or another. And even in your example he just has a 33% chance of killing the threat to the serpent. Not exactly reliable.
