Well I have brought the codex (and cards) and checked out the rumours, and I am not a happy trooper.

The points hike to the Chimera is going to hurt, and I does not look like GW have added the auto-cannon upgrade this edition either. Couple that with the possible loss of some artillery options, and I think that this codex is going to need a pep pill or two.

So I guess that to fill in the missing links, it is off to Forge World and grab myself some Imperial Armour and some good looking artillery pieces.

Still, going to have to wait till I have the codex in hand.

How is the expected release going to hit your AsM army?

The Bugs didn't really change that much, while the change to the Chimera is simply to sell the turdbox.

What do bugs have to do with this topic anyways?

Fortunately the Griffon is listed in IA1 2ed, and at the very reasonable 75pts, so I'm not too bothered if it's omitted from the new Codex. The increased points-cost of a Chimera isn't too surprising as they will want to sell the new Taurox model. It's a shame though, as the Chimera was pretty fairly costed in my opinion, given its AV10 side armour.

Cheers.

Wish i could help but until i have the physical rules in had and can confirm what is in and what is out i will just sit back and wonder. For me i have 2 guard armies one is a mechanized and the other is a forgeworld tank company list. so the tank company i'm not so worried i would only assume that can get cheaper. as for the mechanized i was planning on taking 3+ trucks anyhow so if the chimera went up i will simply field 2+.

Going from the leaked point values, the cost of my (1500) army increased by 10%, while losing what my opponents considered it's most dangerous unit (the colossus) and every unit except Pask in an Exterminator (which now seems to be really good) either didn't change or got worse. So I'm not too pleased about it. And for everyone complaining that nids had it worse: the only reason this isn't worse is because nids were worse off than guard before their new codex. To use an arbitrary number system, nids dropped from a 6 to a 4, while guard dropped from a 9 to a 6.

Te only real positive I can find is that sarge can now have a bolter, so the unit is slightly better at range.

Honestly, while individual units may have been hit, but as long as IG can still Send In the Blob, it's still a top-tier Codex. As long as you can add in Sororitas priests and The Saint to make a 50 man blob Fearless, re-roll to hit and wounds and armor saves in CC, with a 2+ save character up front to tank non-AP2 wounds and give it Hit and Run, any list built off that is going to be a competitive list.

I expected Chimeras to be hit since the Taurox was clearly worse than them without a nerf, and Vendettas also. I hope that other units that could use it got boosted... Rough Riders, Ratlings, Ogryns, etc.

So in other words, what you are saying is that AM is terrible on it's own, and requires allies to make it good. Well, some of don't want to pay extra to have a decent game, especially when that extra is a pretty awful codex on its own.

For your second points, Rough Riders can't use transports, ratlings can't take dedicated transports, and ogryns are very bulky so can only really use super heavy transports, none of which are included in the codex.

Which would be all well and good, but we aren't in 5th edition anymore, and the IG codex on it's own was nothing exceptional in 6th edition, especially compared to Eldar and Tau. By your logic, the ork codex, when it's finally finished, should be nerfed into oblivion because Nob Bikers ruled the roost at the beginning of 5th edition.

If GW wants to sell models they will not nerf guard to heavily. other wise if they do i will simply use what i have and not buy anything from them :) thats the only weapon i have against GW my wallet. So i can simply shop ebay like a mad man. heck its how i got my daemon allies :) GW never got a penny from me on them their all second hand most were they grey army of the month that somone sold after they didnt know how to play it. :) Guard can be the same for me so go ahead nerf the book. :) just means ebay prices will stay the same for me or even drop lol

Its a new book, you'll have to work out a new way to play, thats not a bad thing

Indeed.

As with previous Codecies, expect to see boring old broken 'I built my list around a one trick pony' type armies to suddenly require a bit of thought, the traditional bane of the Netlist :p

Its almost as if some people found one way to win and then used that list for years without trying new fun things.

Those people must hate 6th edition, where things change every week or so, personally, I love it! Got my tempestus codex and 3 boxes of Scions this week, they'll ally with my Inquisitor leading some space marines

Ya that's such an odd concept to some people. I find it funny when people take the net list and either don't know how to use it or most players have already moved past it 6 months ago. With such fast paced changes the meta is always in constant motion.

The changes didn't actually fix what was wrong with IG in the meta.

Instead it randomly removed units that people used, added some mediocre ones, and changed prices around that makes little logical sense.

Why did the chimera need a point increase and the searchlight to be separate at the sametime?

Why do veterans get cheaper overall when they were already cheap and make stormtroopers obsolete once again.

Why make ogryns and bullgryns still cost more then terminators and now give em leadership 6, thus making it very obvious you have to shoot the mandatory commissar.

There are some logical ones like sentinels being cheaper or Pask. The Vendetta price change is expected but arguably higher then it should have been.

There is a lot to list, but honestly the fact that right now the net worth of units shows more was removed then added is probably the lamest change. Especially with how obvious they will just rerelease DLC style.

My army had a MoO, three squads of mortars, and a unit of two collueses with a griffon for the enroll...now I don't think I have anything besides the mandatory blob with a commissar that really just surrounded my now defunct battery...guess ill have to peruse forge world for an IA list.

If chimeras go up by 10 points but veterans go down by the same amount then many mechanised Guard lists won't see too much change. Loosing the third special weapon in a vet squad is more of a downgrade I think. Maybe the min squad size will be cut to 5.

I wonder if GW will FAQ the grey Knight and inquisition codexes to revalue the chimeras in line with the new guard codex? But that would involve them fixing bugs which they don't seem too ready to do.

When they redid the tank company the vets went down to 2 special weapons as well so kind of saw this coming and honestly if you allie in scions that are scoring they are better then vets as they will each have 2 special weapons but one can be either shot guns or las guns while the other are hot shot las guns... And okay the chimera went up in price that's not that hard to deal with Just means you have to put more thought into you list and decide what to keep and what to make with it.

I myself have no issues with the DLC I'd rather have cool rules and a ton of fluff to read over to make an interesting codex then having everything crammed into a single codex and have it not work as well as it should.
