View Full Version : Possible changes to scenery range....

Afternoon.

Just passing on a tidbit from my local GW, gathered on Saturday whilst chin wagging with the manager (and my former bossman).

Seems some of the scenery kits are being withdrawn, or at least can't be ordered at the moment.

Now it is mostly Warhammer stuff at the moment (Witchfate Tor included), but it's starting with 40k (Battlescape, that one with the wrecked Rhino) now.

How far this will go? I don't know. Is it permanent? I don't know. Could be repackaging into sets, could be bye bye forever. Not enough information at this time.

But, I would say now seems the time to round out any scenery collection you may have, as leaving it later may lead to disappointment.

Hope it doesn't forever.

Just had a look at the GW Website (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/armySubUnitCats.jsp?catId=cat440312a&rootCatGameStyle=wh40k) and the Battlescape is indeed gone.

I don't think anything else has, but original point of 'may want to buy now' stands overall.

EDITY EDIT BIT.

To those thinking 'well the piece I've got me beady eye on is quite new, so I should be ok....'

The recent Mansion for the Warhammer range (with the telescope/tower option), which was featured in the Blood of Sigmar book? That's gone. Thankfully I already have one, so I'm ok. But it goes to show, it seems this particular reaper isn't fussed for a kit's age!

What?! I had literally just decided to buy a battlescape today! :P Also the older moonscape plastic craters seem to have disappeared too. Don't know when they went, but maybe they have been totally replaced by the quake craters? Possibly the same with the battlescape.

The crashed aquila fighter has gone too.

Some GW stores, and I would assume FLGS should still have stock, but once it's gone, it'll be gone.

It would be nice if they gave warning prior to a model being removed like this though- may give them a final little sales boom for the product before it is finally removed too.

Old news, GW have been discontinuing scenery for years.

Ok, you can still actually get the battlescape as part of the Warhammer 40k battlefield set. Which is a bit weird. Presumably they still have stock of the boxed set floating around and that will be discontinued soon too.

Sad Panda. At the least it should be a tit for tat, with obvious 'replacements' incoming. That said, I never like having fewer options that before, and I do like scenery: probably the second largest model collection after my primary army =P

There are two new pieces for Fantasy in the Vamp story/campaign book which have yet to be released.

Looks like it is still there...Maybe it was a website hiccup.

oh dear, might need to get another crashed rhino for the tree's to make more Ulumeathi then if that's the case. Damn, I love those tree's.

GW have been withdrawing and re-releasing sets for many years.

I suspect that at least a number of these kits are simply being repackaged.

I'm also wondering if sales on some of the Warhammer kits have been below expectations. While I don't collect Warhammer I've been not been impressed with the look of many of the kits. Too cartoonish, if that's the right expression.

Just my two pence. No offence intended.

I dunno. It costs relatively little to produce the kits once the die is made, so withdrawing slow ones entirely, rather than say just making them direct only purchases doesn't make a great deal of sense to me.

Terrain models have been slowly disappearing over the last year now, last month they removed the crashed Aqulia Lander, Craters and moved the Barricades and Walls to direct only, 3 months back they phased out the Imperial Strongpoint off the website, 3 months before that it was Ork Barricades and about a year ago Modular Hills and Green Felt Battlemats.

Even direct only, there is still a cost associated with maintaining stock. It's only natural that slow selling stuff will be phased out. I'll be honest, the only "terrain" I've bought from GW are fortifications. But I don't have the space for my own gaming table, so I rely on game stores.

Scenery on the GW site is a weird thing.. Garden of Morr was there for me.. then not there.. then I did a search and it showed up again.. but when it showed up other things disappeared.. and back and forth.. Some things are in the gift guide area too.. Either way, a lot of their scenery is nice to look at but they have no interest in reeling in the costs so I end up just buying from other companies..
Skullvane Manse however.. is still on the site.. http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod1390086a
beautiful but at $124 it's just not something I will buy :(

Beat me too it - it's all there still...both the direct links and at the two 'scenery' pages for 40K/Warhammer...

The link for witchfate tor works, but the battlescape link redirects t the homepage for me. Maybe it is still up on the US website, but not the UK one? (UK website being default for me)

Damnedest thing, but yes I did check it.

And then checked again.

May be a difference between the global stores. Could be a glitch.

There was a rumour that at the beginning of April, GW were launching a new website (that would sell Citadel, Forge World and Black Library under one roof). Could be that somebody has been "tinkering" to get things ready. Alternatively it could just be one of their servers being flaky.

The UK store matches Mr Mystery - no Battlescape (rhino) and no Skullvane - but the US store has them as does the Aussie store. So, yeah, take what you want from that...

The Moonscape craters are apparently leaving as per my GW's FB page and mentioned the Quake Cannon Craters instead. Seems to me like they will be changing things up bit by bit.

Skyshield Landing Pad, and Battlefield Accessories just went goodbye on the North American pages as well

This happens all the time the website is buggy. Can people stop losing their **** over the regular glitches.

And I doubt the Fantasy Scenery is going anywhere. Just the oposite in fact... ;)

Forgive me if I ignore your less than expert opinion on the matter, and continue to let folks that may want to know these things know in case they are to be removed off store shelves shortly, to give others an opportunity to talk to their FLGS and get one set aside for them.
