I thought I would put some pictures of my imperial guard up. I don't have many people I game with, and I don't go to tournaments, so I thought here would be a good place to show off some of my stuff. I hope I am doing this photo thing right lol. Never posted pics on a forum before. I'm used to Coolminiornot.com.
I will add some more later!

This is a Hellhound I just finished. It is magnetized, so all the weapons can be interchanged. This is a new color scheme for me, but I wanted to give it a go.

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n248/Fade_13/old%20stuff/punisherside-1.jpg
A new Demolisher chassis. All magnetized so I can use any of the variants. I didn't need the sponsons though. I already have a ton of tanks with them. So I figured that I could use one or two without. This is also a new color scheme for me. I was in the mood for something different.

Thanks for the comments guys. Weathering well has been really tough to learn but well worth it. I still figure something new out with each new tank. Imperial armour masterclass gets all the props for that. Btw FW has another IA masterclass planned for sure. I sent them an email a few weeks ago with a question about one of the paint schemes and to ask if they had another in the works and they said yes there was one planned.

Here are a couple super heavies I did while trying to learn from IA masterclass.

It's not really complex. I think it was just ultramarines blue basecoat. Washed with a darker blue/black. Then highlighted with UM blue lightened with white in several layers.

Nope lol. I actually almost never use any of them I'm sorry to say. I love commissars though. They have always been some of my favorite models. I may have to make a list using Yarrick and all my commissars at once. It probably would't win any games, but it would be a hell of a lot of fun.

Hehe feel free mate, i think those models are the ones i'm most proud of (apart from the VERY dead guardsman objective marker :D)

firstly i had to sculpt the ears of half of the guys (a first for me) and secondly the collars came out really well.

the secret is definately in the explosive collars, the "detonator device" is from the spade handles that come on the tank accessory sprue (i'm sure you have plenty of these) it was a lttle tricky to cut them to fit on the collar, but it definately paid off.

I havent updated my blog in ages, but i'm getting back into it, to finish off my guardsmen and get onto the tyranid bandwagon ready for a new year of gaming

I use alot of hull mounted heavy flamers. The biggest threat to my tanks is usually things that want to get up close and personal. So I find that the heavy flamers, while not always useful, deal with my threats most efficiently. And when you have 3-5 tanks, arty, etc, in a big mob at the back of the board, thats alot of heavy flamer templates. I also run my chimeras with hull mounted and turret mounted HF.

The Deathrider Ride Master I just finished. It really looks much better in person. I just can't seem to get the depth that I should be getting with my camera. I wanted a real unearthly tone for this guys horse, so he would stand out in a crowd. It's actually just bleached bone sprayed really thin, almost transparent, so the black shows through a bit. It gives it that really weird blue feel, without using any blue. This would actually look really good on any ghostly figure.

When I set out to make this nid drop pod, i had an idea in my head for the "doors". I knew it would resemble...uh..certain things. However, I decided to let the hot glue fall where it may and crossed my fingers that the outcome would be acceptably "Nid". In that, I think it turned out pretty good.

How'd you do the wings on the Daemon Prince, like the feathered approach.

fade_74
03-21-2010, 07:43 AM
The wings on the demon prince were spray primered with krylon flat white. I then used GW washes for the color. Asurman blue, Leviathan purple, Bhaal Red, and Gryphonne sepia. When they were completely dry, I sprayed em with matte finish. The a couple days later I washed the whole wing in Devlan mud, then drybrushed with bleached bone.

They looked really cool before the devlan mud wash, but they just looked to angelic for the demon prince. It would look really kick *** on a pegasus, or something angelic.

Rafe_131
03-21-2010, 11:31 AM

Thanks. You hit the nail on the head. Polystyrene *the most dense I could get, I think grade B mabey?* cut with a hot wire cutter. The beams were made with 1/2 inch square dowels, and an assortment of Cities o' Death bits Fade had laying around. Then Fade gave it a paint job. I think I may steal it back from him and recut the outer destroyed sections so they go clean to the table, and square up the ends so we can add on to it with another wall section in the future. *I have to finish Fade's Tau-ish terrain first though......the mans a slave driver....hehe*

Fade mate, i want to replicate your "blue hue" grey horse for one or 2 of my Death riders i just bought, got any ideas how i might be able to get a similar finish without the use of a spray gun?

I was thinking maybe

Base black

painted with watered down bleached bone

washed with thinned badab black

i'm sure it won't look anywhere near as good as yours though lol!

I might have to mix in a tiny bit of shadow grey to the bleached bone to get a better blue hue to it

I do bone in a ton of different ways, but this way makes them look really old and worn down. I used the same on my servo skulls....just without the wash.

Great work as usual! I absolutely love the PSB concept.

Two part question...what shade of red did you use on the should pads/leg warmers of the Overseer and do you mind if I steal the color scheme for my Ordos Xenos detachment?

Fade, once again truly stellar work. Blow my painting skills outta the water. But I like my skills - they ain't perfect but they're mine.

Nonetheless, awesome PBS. Concept and execution are top-notch.

Outstanding Straken mate and I like the way you've done the pbs, I might have to lift that.

Vorlon, feel free. I think those colors would look great for Ordo Xenos. The red is Mecharite red basecoat. Shaded with a little dark brown wash (just around the shoulder icons, don't wash the whole thing). I added a little blood red to the mech red a bit at a time for the highlights.

ColCorbane...lift away! I lifted it from somebody else. lol

Lewis....always be proud of the skills you have....because there is always somebody else who has less skill than you. I look to a lot of others for inspiration. and how to articles lol.

Thanks for the compliments guys!

Just to echo others comments, absolutley amazing work! That is a beautifully painted IG army you have there sir. My favourite piece has to be the Valkyrie with the FW decals... lovely job!

Thanks for the comment Ebsolom! A lot of people wonder if the cost of FW decals is worth it....and yes....they are worth it. The ones for the valk wings are really for somebody who has a lot of patience. They are one solid decal, that you have to cut into parts, to fit. I probably have 3-4 hours in just those two wings lol.

Elysian Tauros Venator. I used it to practice dirt and grime. It turned out ok, but I still need a bit more practice. Thank Rafe for the camo scheme, he told me to do something I hadn't done before lol.

Pretty good for a first effort :). Wheels turned out really well - this is usually the bit people seem to get wrong (look at the Venator on the FW site). The balance between what is and isn't dirty seems a little off though (for instance, it looks like the missile pods and the door frame should be muddy). Other than that the texture seems quite natural, so thumbs up.

Nice, the mud/dirt turned out great.

Also never knew the Venarator had a HK missile on each side. I thought it only had one.

Here is one of the new Demolisher kits. I did this one with all the sponson, hull mount, and mail weapon options. Everything either slots in or has magnets.

Top notch, Forgeworld-level, painting and weathering (especially that sentinal). Great job!

*Edit* Also, what is that decoration on the chimera turret? I like it.

It's a brass bit that comes from the GW Warhammer 40k basing kit. It actually has quite a few cool bits.

You can actually see the bit in the top right hand side of the box photo.

Thanks for the comment Vorlon!

So Im sitting here at work painting a chimera while looking at your Venator pics and trying to deconstruct your weathering colors and my boss walks up and looks at my screen. He (being a former marine) asks if that is the new USMC recon vehical hes been hearing rumors about....and asks if I have any videos of it in action.... Ive never been so jealous of someones painting in my life =p

The new GW Executioner....ughh, I hate that thing. The gun looks horrible. By the way, am I the only one who spotted the Vulture on the lower shelf? Just wondering, what weapon loadout do you give it? Mine flies with four rocket pods.

Here is a new tank I painted just for EBAY! /cry...I hate to sell it, but I bought and painted it just for that reason. I have also decided to do some commission work. IG Tanks are my specialty. Just hit me up over PM and we can talk it over.

I was practicing my photo skills (that suck lol) and took some new pics of my vendetta. I also put it up on coolminiornot so drop by there and give it a vote if you could. I'm sorta not in the "IN" crowd there I guess so my stuff just doesn't do well. It should be posted there by morning as they have a waiting period so an admin can check and make sure it's not pron lol.

Here is the Forge World Ultramarines Dreadnought I did for my buddy Bodeen! No biting it, or im gonna kick your *** lol. I did this one in a very traditional paint scheme with minimal strange techniques, to highlight the coolness of the model itself. I initially was gonna add some rust, but decided against it. He may be ancient, but I can't see the Ultramarines letting a venerable fall into any type of disrepair. This was also one of the easiest FW models I have ever done. There was just a bit of extra flash, and no air pockets to speak of. All the mold lines were easily taken care of. I don't think I had to sand anything at all.
