View Full Version : What To Do with Astorath?

I used to play my Blood Angels as Blood Angels, but I've since converted them into Knights of Blood. As a result, I have lying around a fairly beat up Astorath the Grim.

The thing is... I don't much care for Astorath the Grim. I think he's a bit boring. I don't want to spam death company, I don't care if more of my squads get the Red Thirst (I tend to put priests in every squad anyway, which makes the Thirst redundant), and if I want that kind of statline on a character, I'll just take a captain. The thing is, the model is really pretty, and I don't want to let it go to waste... so what should I do with it?

Above, I've listed a couple of options that I've thought of so far. Feel free to vote one of those, or suggest something else entirely. Explanations are great, and make fodder for conversation!

OTHER. Counts as Dante. Now there's a poor model. Especially compared to the 'lesser' characters. Shrike makes a nice jump cap.

Make him so that you can interchange him between a jump captain AND Dante!

I have to admit, I kinda like Dante. Especially the sanguinary guard winged jump pack conversion I've already done.

I'm leaning towards jump captain at the minute… can anyone recommend a good power lance bit?

I changed him into my Kharn - because overhead axe swings are awesome for killing your squad mates...

Of course you could just run him as a standard chaplain...

I've already got a jump chaplain and a foot chaplain. I guess I could use a second jump chaplain, theoretically.

I have to say I have this issue with Astrorath. Love the model so I brought it (that and it was new in the dex which I didn't have) still in the blister to be painted and built...

You're right in that 6th Ed Astorath is redundant.

Now that the best thing about Blood Angels is a 5+ F'n'P rather than the Furious Charge a priest is worth way more than the Red Thirst on 3 or less, even though fearless is pretty good. Used to be in 5th that you could use Astorath as a way of filling the HQ and not taking priests, but now priests are more valuable.

Taking multiple squads of DC is interesting but due to not scoring really gives you a head ache when writing lists, and if you want a Jump character or jump chaplain to give your DC a boost, why take anything but Lemartes.

I'd think about using him as Sanguinor perhaps, or even as Sanguinary Guard leader or Captain.

But you could probably wait for the next Codex before cutting the model to pieces.

Add to that his axe is now a two handed power axe he's even more frustrating,

I think that sword has a longer range than an infernus pistol!
