So, spinning off from our third thread of nonsense, Otter Toffee 3rd, The Avengening, and the potentially explosive musical debate, I think we should take a page out the Book of Peel, and introduce each other to some new music.

Could be a local band, could be one from yesteryear with a new track, could be a golden oldie you just want to share.

Genre - Doesn't matter.
Quality - Youtube please!

All about just sharing some music, and introducing new stuff to people!

To give you an idea of how eclectic and not in anyway mainsteam so shush Wolfie, bad Wolfie Mr Peel was, this links to a list of the bands he had on his Radio 1 show to do sessions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Peel_sessions)

It's mighty impressive!

My love of Electronic music in all its guises originated with Kraftwerk who I 1st heard Peel play live waaaaayyyyyy back in the early 80s I guess. The Video is of the guys from last year still proving they are the Grandaddys of Techno.

Dont ruin the thread Wolfie its an awesome idea :P

They aren't on Peels mainstream list of sessions. Unlike bands like Status Quo, Thin Lizzy or UB40...

Last one I promise, the whole video is quite long, but please if so inclined skip to about 5 mins into when the music starts proper. Aphex Twin won't be everybody's thing but watch the video if you can and then try and remove the images from your mind asap. Freaky and NSFW.

One thing I liked about John Peel's shows was that if he had to play something he didn't like, he made no pretence at liking it as most DJs have to. A song would end and he would go 'that wasn't very good now was it?'

also he played tracks by bands whose names seemed to have come out of a hat. 'and now we have the... elastic monkeys. before that you heard 'where is my slipper?'

And going back to original intent....

Not my taste in music or style.

But man, you have to respect the skills that this group have! That entire video is acapella (or however you spell it). No drum machine. No synth. Just five sets of pretty impressive vocal chords.

And speaking of Acapella, my first encounter with that musical style was via my Dad, and his Flying Pickets album, which contained their version of Only You, originally by Yazoo. Which is awesome on both counts.

But my favourite Yazoo track?

Ah, John Peel - the man that played GODFLESH on the radio, the man that played Japanese noise-industrial band Dissecting Table on the radio.

Yep. I loved him, he was the only man in radio that had the balls and guts to play Industrial, ebm, dark electro, experimental and noise on mainstream radio.

Yup.

And what I wouldn't give to see a proper, national battle of the bands, like an X Factor but involving an actual talent, and not just half arsed coveroke.

It'll never happen. Record Labels don't care about originality or talent. Even underground labels are far more conservative these days, so people like me have absolutely no chance in hell. I wonder some days why I don't give up and call it a day.

Just for a slight change, a bit of poetry now, by the Bard of Salford, John Cooper Clarke.

First encountered this piece on a Punk compilation album, and it's ace!
