we rolled Vanguard strike and The Emperors Will and rolled off to see who chose to deploy/go first. My opponent rolled higher and set up a lot of his fire warriors on top of platforms, Pathfinders were deployed in the center of his line backed up by FW's for support. Riptide was on the left flank with the Hammerhead and the skyray was on the right. He placed his objective with the squad with the cadre fireblade. My setup was a line of gaunts going from one end of my deployment zone to the other, tervigon was behinds one of the lines with a venomthrope on the right flank and the other one was deployed close to the 2 Zoanthropes which was also behind the gaunts. My biovores were placed at the back being baby sat by my warrior brood and this is where I placed my objective. night fighting was in effect turn 1 My Genestealers then deployed in a building near the Pathfinder unit using Infiltrate and I rolled to seize the initiative and successfully rolled a 6.

Turn 1: My genestealers immediately cast the horror on the pathfinder squad, causing them to be pinned, my Tervigon cast dominion and the Zoans cast Onslaught on the gaunts. My gaunts and Tervigon moved forward with the venomthrope as well as the zoans and Venomthrope on the left flank. The Biovore brood indirectly shot spore mines into the pathfinder squad with Darkstrider resulting in the entire squad being killed scoring me slay the warlord and first blood. With the Tau forces leader gone, and the other pathfinder squad pinned, it meant my opponents had to move his units forward in order to score hits on my staff as he was snap shotting his marker lights. He got a couple of them to hit successfully but not enough to ignore any cover. He ended up killing a bunch of Gaunts and wounding 1 of my Zoanthropes.

Turn 2: I roll for reserves and my flyrant comes on, a Mawloc, outflanking Termagants and 2 broods of deep striking spore mines. The Mawloc scatters off it's intended target and ends up in the open, my flyrant moves into range of one squad of crisis suits, the outflanking gaunts arrive on the left hand side behind the 2nd squad of crisis suits and the spore mines land in a couple of areas in his deployment zone. The termagants fire their devourers into the crisis suits, killing 2 of them and forcing a leadership test. They break and run away leaving the termagants to face off against a Riptide and fire warriors. The Tyrant fires it's twin linked devourers into the crisis suits resulting in 1 dying. My opponent fails his leadership test and proceeds to flee. The Biovores ends up killing half the 2nd Pathfinder squad, forcing them to break and run away. My tau opponent has not fared well so fan proceeds to nova charge the heavy burst cannon on his riptide and moves his skyray into range of my flyrant. The squad of crisis suits who got dakka'd by the termagants fail to rally and end up running off the board and the 2nd squad rallies as do the pathfinders. The heavy burst cannon nova charged fires into my Termagants where my opponent is unlucky to roll 5 1's resulting in the Riptide taking a wound. He manages to kill 4 gaunts forcing me to take a leadership test which I pass by rolling a 5. My opponents bad luck continues after killing only 2 gaunts with the fire warriors and I pass my leadership test again. The Fireblade and the skyray hit my Tyrant with 3 marker lights resulting in my tyrant being his by a seeker missile. After this the Crisis Suits scored 2 more wounds against the Tyrant but it managed to pass all it's grounded tests. The spore mines were promptly gunned down as they were a little to close for comfort to the fire warriors.

Turn 3: The 2nd Mawloc came on and resulted in the Riptide being hit twice but failing to do any damage. I then rolled a 1 on the mishap resulting in mental pictures Mawloc's head being stamped on by the Riptide as it came up. The other mawloc, being ignored last turn reburrows. The Broodlord pinned the 6 man fire warrior squad with the horror and my flyrant vector striked the crisis squad, killing another crisis suit which resulted it taking a leadership test, failing and running off the board. The outflanking gaunts failed their instinctive behavior and started fleeing. The rest of the army moved up and my Biovores hit home with another successful bombardment, killing all the fire warriors on my opponents objective and wounding the cadre fireblade, forcing him to flee. Termagants managed to get in shots against the fire warriors, killing a couple and forcing them to flee off the board. My opponent moved his last 12 man fire warrior squad onto the objective in his deplyment zone, reclaiming it. The fleeing Gaunts were gunned down by the Fire warriors and the riptide fired it's heavy burst cannon at my warriors babysitting my Biovore, resulting in 1 wound. The skyray attempted to shoot my Tyrant and missed and more gaunts were killed with shots from the FW's.

Turn 4: Tyrant moves to the skyray and attempts to shoot it's side armour, resulting in no damage and my army keeps moving forward. The horror fails to ground the cadre fireblade and the mawloc comes back, scoring a single wound on the Riptide and being misplaced into the corner of the board. My spore mines from previous turn move towards the Skyray and another spore mine bombardment results in 50% casualties to the last 12 man fire warrior squad, pinning them but failing to break them. My zoans attempt to cast warp blast on the Riptide but it denies the witch successfully. The spore mines assault the skyray and detonate, scoring a penetrating hit and stunning it. At current it's 5 VP's to 3.

Turn 5: Due to the sheer amount of fire power pointing in the direction of my Tyrant, I decide to fly off the board, better to be safe then sorry. My Mawloc reburrows and my Genestealers pin the Cadre Fireblade The rest of my army is still moving forward but not quite in my opponents deployment zone. The Biovores release another bombardment but scatter wide resulting in 3 spore mines being placed near the remnants of the last 12 man FW squad. Zoans cast warp blast again and score a single wound but the Riptide passes it's FNP. My opponent nova charges the riptide successfully and attempts to shoot my Zoans who are currently sat in a building backed up by a Venomthrope and quite happily withstand the firepower. He then pulls a risky move and rolls a 19 for nova charged into jet pack move into my deployment zone knowing full well that if the game continues, he will have one very angry Tyrant to deal with. I roll to see if the game continues and roll a 1, resulting in my opponent not only scoring line breaker but slay the warlord.

Overview: Close game and it seemed like my opponent was cursed with bad dice rolls. To save time I used his dice and for some reason the seemed to love me. The Broodlord proved a useful tool to shutting down the Tau's shooting early game but my opponent for the most part completely ignored them. The biovores were excellent and the Scatter dice rolled well for me. The Mawlocs were a little disappointing but overall I am happy with how the list performed.

Great battle report!

I'm glad those stealers worked for you. I think people are overlooking them because they can't just charge in blindly.

Pity the mawloc's head got stepped on! :) But that makes a fun visual!

Turn 5 you should have assaulted the skyray and knocked it out with your tyrant, that was a big risk having it fly off the board!

Other then that, well done!

Yeah, That was really nice.
But why did you manage to kill a riptide with a mawloc !!!!
You made a big mistake twice with them :)

You should have to destroy the skyray with the first one and a crisis unit or the team with fireblade.
And you didn't speak about the warriors ???
Or you could pin the riptide !

Instead of warriors i should have bought a unit of horma with toxin ;)
It's awful for these units with high toughness ;) or a crone !

Have fun ! ;) and continue like that
