I went to my FLGS to pick up my order and found they had the new weekly white dwarf and I was quite optimistic about it. With all the talk of it being "revamped" I couldn't help but smile all the way home . . . then I read it. By no means am I the guy who always downs GW and their products but like a lot of you I feel change is needed so here we go

Highlights include:

Paint Splatter

Belegar Ironhammer - Paper slate

disappointment's:

Everything else. There was discussion on 40K but it involved discussion on the Tyranid monstrous creatures, a scenario called Scouting Game and it wasn't even mentiond which system it was for and finally the black library releases for you fluff bunnies. Would I recommend buying it? No! Save your money as I've just given you everything worth knowing.

The scouting game is independent of system, if you like it, you can use it, its just a little mini game to see who gets first turn, a bit more fun than a simple d6 roll, Jervis came up with it and was playing it at Games Day last year, its pretty cool!

For the price, its a nifty little magazine, i quite like it!

As for Warhammer Visions, this wasn't at all what I expected, its in 3 languages, so all text is repeated 3 times, but there is hardly any text to it at all! Mostly captions, its just a little thick book of pictures, saying they've added 30 more pages is a bit cheeky as well, because they've reduced the size down to an a5 format! Some lovely pictures of armies and models, an article of Ork Conversions, Banchitsu looking sexy as ever and then a big Paint Splatter, nothing game rule related so if you're an utter WAACer, then you probably won't get much from Warhammer Visions, the binding is really well done though, its more like a soft cover book than a magazine, so it should last well if you want to look back at all the pretty pictures, I have 11 months left of my current subscription, so I'll be sticking with it anyway!

Maybe I was expecting too much too soon but I still feel that the only pages that are worth anything are the Ironhammer rules and paint splatter. The new magazine left me deflated I can see things picking up when it comes to rules and scenarios but I don't recommend people buy the magazine on a whim and to simply wait till the content reviews are released a day or so after.

I think its a step in the right direction, its a nice little mag, the content to advert ratio is good and the potential is there, I'd like to see some of the altar of war missions in these, really spice it up with some new missions for the new models

It would be cool if 40K implemented something like it as an actual book-rules mechanic. It has the potential for far more dynamic deployments and heightens the importance of terrain. However, with the increased emphasis on "BUY OUR FORTIFICATIONS!" the idea becomes a little less feasible. Either your forward units could end up fairly fair from your fortifications, or you get the slightly more ridiculous effect of fortifications than happen to magically appear at the point of contact, lol.

This will be the first new Dwarf related item i have read in more the 5 years, granted the stats were nice but i still want to read the lord's fluff and see why he has his rules and what not.
